Hmmmm… interesting, how did that sony ad go…. often copied, never equalled I think that claim clearly goes to Panasonic on this one, especially the equalled part, and I’d agree with rmherd, capturing to a GOP structured file format in an HD world seems a bad choice. It should be good for all those who have bought into the xdcam technology although looks like they will all have to start buying SxS cards now too.

Just listened to the podcast…. they report compressor processing a file from 16 minutes down to 6 minutes. Compressor will be the background for multi-format timeline and it will make use of all the processors available. Appearently there is a progress window that demonstates the distribution of the processing taking place. Sounds like the octocore is very benificial.

Yes, it’s all relative to the viewing distance. If you take a 1mb digital camera and take a headshot of your mate and then print out a 1X1.5″ passport photo, a 5X7″ print and a 40″ wall portrait, the 40″ print will look bad up close but hold the passport 10″ from your eye and place the 5×7 about arms length and the 40″ print about 20 feet away and in perspective they will look the same.
An apple or dell 30″ monitor does give you more real estate because the screen resolution is greater. 2560X1600 as opposed to 1920X1080. -

I sent mine in expess mail, insured for $1500.00 at the last minute and it took over 1 month to get them back as I recall. Coincidentally I needed to to do a re-install 2 days after I recieved my new discs. I really counted my blessings they were back because FCP on my back-up drive wouldn’t open either.
The whole process seemed a little weird and I was a little annoyed I had to send it internationally to the US at the bussiest time of the year for the postal service, I felt something should have been in place through Apple Canada. If this was all to do with piracy then I can live with it because it is annoying so many users compete in the market place without ever paying their way in.

You should double check this, it could be just bad photos as most component switchers I’ve seen are bnc.
These days in this business we use consumer, prosumer, industrial, and professional broadcast equipment to fill a particular need. Industrial switchers designed for multimedia management in large venues (like NAB) would be quite useful for this particular application. Although I’ve used Ross, Panasonic and Videonics camera switchers my use of router type switchers in a post enviroment is limited and I can’t really speak to the relyability of various models.
I do have a few kramer switchers and I like the fact they can kram input 2 out of output 1 and at the same time route input 5 out of output 2 or one input into 2 outputs. They look good too. For our needs, although I’d rather have the feature than not, we don’t need interval switchers as we merely want to connect equipment together for each job and not switch during a live performance or broadcast. Extron makes a lot of bnc equipt’d component switchers for large venue applications and I’m sure they would work well too (they don’t look too pretty like Kramer). There are always lots on ebay. I would compare some 4X4; 6X4; 6X6 etc. models so there is room for expansion. You never know what is in the future and they are all about the same size.

Check the projector settings in the projector menu. Set scanning resolution to 1024X768 or what ever your native resolution is providing the projector has it. Most new projectors do 720P or 1920i HD also. Make sure you have selected DVI as input. Projectors have slower refresh rates than computers so try 75 – 85 mhz.

I’m a big fan of routers and switchers. You don’t have a ton of gear to manage so you don’t need a $30,000.00 32X32 or 64X64 router to worry about. There’s a ton of analog component switchers on ebay in the $100.00 – $200.00 bracket for 8X1, 8X2 configuration. You can probably get an 8X4 or 8X8 for the cost of a new component patchbay with a few component patch cables which aren’t cheap, so you can probably save with a router and have the prestiege of not having to get up to change your i/o configurations.

I’m not sure what format you’re working with and what equipment is at your disposal but feeding from a deck with component and balanced audio out into a device like an AJA lo should do it on the fly.
