For something quick and simple tell clients you require a $100.00 (or what ever amount you choose) deposit to book the date. On your invoice list the equipment and services you will provide on the dates involved along with the rates for them. You should include hourly, 1/2 day and full day rates incase they add additional time or services midstream.
Google “assignment confirmation form”. This is probably more appropriate for this type of assurance. Since you may be dealing with these people over some distance the deposit system is a bit awkward but an assignment confirmation form can be signed and faxed easily.

Yes, industry has failed us. BNC’s and XLR’s have populated the back of decks, cameras and equipment for decades. Sony, Panasonic and JVC have devised lock clips to hold the 3 prong power cables in place. Multi-pin dubbing cables from these companies have always been locking types. In the beginning of the computer age we had scsi, parallel, serial and d-sub’s that had either the annoying fine threaded screw keepers or the more convenient butterfly springs to keep us connected. Firewire, USB and a whole host of others don’t provide this locking connection. (Apple has a magnetic power cable for laptops)

Yes Canon XLR style connectors are available in 3,4,5,6 and 7 pin and we used to see lots of them around, they are much superior to din plugs. You can even step on them. Where are they? Somewhere along the line manufacturers have lost sight of the importance of maintaining a positive connection of their equipment.

someone posted something about it a day or 2 ago. Do a search on this forum. Basically it was an extension cable to allow some slack so it doesn’t pull out. Apparently

Some are phantom powered, some have a battery box or inline battery which is what you will need. My audio-technica are cheap but work well for about $160.00 each. They have a 5′ mic cable to the power box which has a belt clip and uses 1-AA battery and an XLR connector. Sony has several varieties from ECM 44,55,66,77, all use an inline battery unit with XLR connector end instead of the box style. You can get the ECM with a “C” suffix which is the compact sized XLR connector for use with wireless transmitters so be careful to get the full XLR end.
You beachtek adapter will be perfect.

By all means, hard wired mics are always the most reliable. Morer is involved in hiding the cables but I use them often.

This is interesting. I’ve wondered about the differences of ProRes and AVC-I since Apple introduced ProRes.
Canon, JVC and others still haven’t introduced a solid state camera. Maybe they will license ProRes from Apple and capture natively to it. They could also use hot swap solid state HDDs for storage.

Can you try capturing 1 minute of dv from the crappy consumer dv camera and recapturing it off the timeline back to the camera. If this works then cut and paste your project into that timeline. If there was something missed in the settings of your original project you should get prompted to conform to settings when you paste it. Click ok and it should work.
