  • HELP! Output to Beta SP deck – picture shifting!

Posted by Kristoffer Newsom on January 30, 2008 at 8:42 pm

I’m outputting from Final Cut Pro to a Sony UVW-1800 Betacam SP deck, and on my monitor, the picture keeps shifting down (and splitting in half, with the bottom of the frame at the top), every second or so, and keeps moving bit by bit. It doesn’t seem to matter which video output I’m using… component, composite, s-video, it’s all the same! But when I hook my output card directly to my monitor, I don’t have this problem at all – just a rock steady image, which tells me it’s the deck.

is there any way of knowing if that’s just the deck’s monitor outputs? Or am I dealing with a more serious problem here? Am I just missing a sync setting or something? Do I NEED timecode output from the computer to make this stop? The deck is a rental… do I need to take it back and ask for my $$ back or a different deck?

Thanks much, any help would be much appreciated – I need to get a dub of my film out ASAP.

You need to sync to your output device.

“everything is broken” ……1st. coined by Esther Philips I believe.

You need a blackburst generator to sync up your system and the UVW-1800 to not see this.

But your record is just fine. You should note that the playback after you record should look just fine.

By jove, you’ve got it! I tested my record, and all’s well.

…now if I could just get “print to video” to actually work…

With that deck you want to do an Edit to Tape. Ensure you have a proper RS-422 cable connected and go.

s’ok, I just did it off the timeline – I don’t have an RS-422 adapter handy at the moment.

Thanks to everyone for your help!!
