You can try the reset button behind the flip out screen on the top left. You need a pen or pointed object, it’s quite deep. Good luck!

Yes, this is beyond unreasonable to the point of ridiculousness. Are you sure they are an authorized dealer? They should up it to a 32GB card or at least cut you a very good deal on a up grade.

One thing is you should just forget about buying an HDV deck. It is a step in the wrong direction for you. An HDV deck only makes sense if you shoot an HDV camera. Buy a 32GB card instead. You can rent decks or supply projects on hard drives if you have to.
Don’t buy a G5, get a newer Mac Pro with an intel processor and PCI-E slots. That way you are more future proof when adding peripherals.

If you are like me and need more work to earn more money to apply all my write offs to, than buying is better. But, if you have made too much money or plan to make too much money this year then leasing offers a better write off.
You always pay more on a lease than paying up front in cash. Shop around for your lease as the buy out can be $10.00 at the end or it can be $1000.00.

Don’t forget… the original 2GB P2 cards were something like $2500.00 ea. Today it’s 32GB @ $1500.00!

If your cable has XLR’s it is balanced. Maybe it’s been stepped on too often. Maybe it has a poorer design or shielding quality or a faulty end. You can spend a lot of dough on oxygen free cables and higher end shielding. Was the mic mounted on the camera or a suspension system?
I’ve seen this happen in a particular environment, weeks apart it still occurred.
It doesn’t hurt to have a variety of XLR balanced cables in different lengths so I would get a new one with high end shielding and borrow or rent a second mic just to try (the process of elimination).
You could also post this on the audio pro forum and see what the audio gurus advise.

The black Single or Double Cinenet is the most useful for what you are doing. It is flame retardant and can be doubled or tripled. It cuts about 1/2 stop per layer. Prices are per linear foot and they make up to 24′ widths.
On their web site look under “Fabric By Use” in the top tool bar. You can find “diffusion” there.
