Going to paste a couple posts that I have put on the JVC list…can anyone here give any advice?

    Subject: Hey Johnny Clark…or anyone…dubbing to HD100…

    Hey all,

I’m having a heck of time getting a dub out to my HD100 from Final Cut…most recent version.

I get image on the lcd but nothing will record to tape…would like to just do “crash” record but when I play back from timeline…all I get is a still where the cti is located upon stopping playback.

Wasted all morning on this stupid dub and still now where…please help!!! Audio Video settings set to playback via firewire…so why is not working?

Sorry to sound like an idiot here…I just never go to tape anymore…always goes to dvd or web.

Ok…got my CU-VH1 back from my buddy tonight and am trying it now.

In “edit to tape”…it appears that all I am getting is good clean audio and the first frame of video in my timeline…which in this case is the first frame of my bars. So it is sending good audio and freezing the video with the first frame.

In “Print to Video”…I dont appear to be getting anything.

And again…if I “play from timeline”…I only get the good audio…and the still of where the CTI is sitting at the time or when I hit space bar to stop it updates to the frame that it stops on.

I am at a loss…this should be a no-brainer and the easiest thing to do.

    I need help desperately.

Please assist however you can…I really need to figure this out.

    Thanks so much,

    Tim Baker

Sounds like your video output does not match the Sequence Settings.

Yup – sounds like the wrong video playback settings. Try an Easy Setup to cure it.

Do you see an output on your video monitor on normal playback? Is there video going to the tape machine if you just hit play on the timeline? If not it’s the playback settings. If so, you have a deck control issue possibly – although I think that’s unlikely.

Give us more details about your project settings (codec etc) and the inputs your using to the deck. That may clear things up.

Sorry guess some of that info would have been helpful.

It is a plain old mini-dv project…feeding firewire to camera and/or deck. Editing on new MacBook Pro that was purchased to team with my AJA IOHD so there should be plenty of horsepower as far as laptop.

    Settings are…
-Sequence Preset is DV NTSC 48khz
-A/V settings…All show proper preset at dv ntsc and video playback is set to Apple firwire ntsc @ 720×480…audio playback set to firewire DV.
-A/V Devices…same…with no seperate playback settings to go to tape

I’ve tried both the DV NTSC and DV NTSC Firewire Basic “Easy Setups” and nothing changes…same still frame in deck monitor at start/stop of playback from timeline…no full motion video.

    I’m stumped.

Something else I just noticed…I can scrub the timeline and get a good scrub out to monitor with video and audio…hmmmm.

Now I just opened an HDV 720p project and it is playing fine thru the onboard monitor of the CU-VH1 deck. Sounds great and looks great in full motion. Playing back in firewire only, as well.

Ugh!!! So it is obviously something that is not config’ed right for MiniDv.

This sounds like a menu setting or switch on your deck.

“everything is broken” ……1st. coined by Esther Philips I believe.

If it is…it is on my JVC HD100 camera…the accompanying CU-VH1 deck and my little crappy home consumer camera. I cant find any menu settings that would correct or cause the problem that I am having.

Unless the HDV gear just is not as compatible with MiniDV as it is supposed to be, but then what about the consumer firewire camera hookup?

I am getting perfect signal from my current HDV project to the above mentioned deck, but I am stumped on the rest.

You would think that MiniDV would be easier setup than the HDV.

    Thanks,

Can you try capturing 1 minute of dv from the crappy consumer dv camera and recapturing it off the timeline back to the camera. If this works then cut and paste your project into that timeline. If there was something missed in the settings of your original project you should get prompted to conform to settings when you paste it. Click ok and it should work.

Ooooohh…now that is why I love the Cow. Good idea…in the middle of a project, but will try that tomorrow or so…good call.

    Thanks…nothing else has worked…worth a shot.
