    G’day Baz,
You must have more influence than me. I rang Adobe in Sydney this morning. Here’s the response I posted over at the Adobe forum…

“The phone works fine, it’s just the Adobe staff at the other end that are blank.
I phoned Adobe in Sydney who promptly referred me to their website for on-line ordering. Went to the site and of course there is no mention of Prem Pro v2. Phoned back Adobe, got the same person, and she told me it should be there. I asked her to check and she came back and said it wasn’t on their website. I asked her how I could order the upgrade and she told me it could only be done over the phone. I asked her for the upgrade phone number and she told me I was already speaking to her. I asked her if I could order the upgrade and she said NO! I could only do that when stocks arrived in about four weeks.
Jokingly I asked her if I could upgrade my Canopus Raptor card for a superseded Canopus Storm card. She asked me to hold whilst she enquired. I hung up the phone.
There must be a moral to this story. Perhaps I should do a doco on Adobe service worldwide.”

    Thanks Pete, appreciate your help.
Same problem, they only upgrade the suite. I only want to upgrade Prem Pro v2.
Unfortunately in this industry, the old two card trick, buy offshore and put someone here out of a job.

By the way, there is a driver for the RTX-100 that outputs to NTSC a range of Adobe products.

    G’day Steven,
If he’s using the RTX-10 (or for that matter the RTX-100) he is unlikely to be using HDV. Neither card works with HDV.

Just remember that this solution only works for DV and not HDV.

And native HDV? Please tell me that the Cineform plugin will still work.

Your setup sounds fine. Are you going to replace the 160gb drive with a Raid or match it with a partner 160gb drive to form a Raid? Formatting drives is not really necessary after each project and can be a pain in the neck with a Raid array. If you manage your folders you can delete unwanted files and simply “defrag” regularly to give you optimal performance.

No scientific answer to this. All our SATA drives are Western Digital simply because the Seagates died. Lost eleven in two years but I suspect this was a Raid/Power Supply problem.

Depends how fussy you are with your setup. We’re running 6 Sata and 2 IDE HDD internal on an Asus mobo. Some are bolted in and others just lay on the case. Frequently we’re dropping drives in and out as we give the hard drive to the client at the end of the edit. No side on the case so we can pump cold air from our 3hp AC unit.
Use to be tidy until too many hard drives carked it. Haven’t had any bother for over two years now.
We’ve got a four drive external sata raid on another machine (it’s tidy) and it works fine and fast. Used mainly for e-mail (just joking!)

You’re right, real world experience is that SATA is about 3 times more efficient overall. Firewire has its place in video editing but won’t compete with SATA.
