I agree with Rovers. 24″ monitor is fine with Adobe and a lot better than playing around with dual monitors (colour descrepancies, GPU power etc.) I’ve got a Dell 27″ which is simply the greatest having experienced all sorts of configurations over many years.

I think if you check with nVidia your GTS card won’t handle the combined resolution of your two monitors. Might need to migrate to a Quadro.

This can also happen if you have multiple sequences in the timeline or just a single timeline where you have changed a previously rendered effect or transition and have not yet rerendered. Doing a render of that part of the timeline often rectifies this issue.

Sorry, Mike said that PAL DV uses lower field first. He corrected me in saying all other PAL formats are upper field first.

Just stay away from format conversions. There has to be a good reason why most facilities transfer with tape.

Transfer via DVCAM tape will be your best avenue. You really shouldn’t lose any quality if your friend has an average facility.

Yes. When you deinterlace you no longer have upper or lower fields, simply a “frame” much like film. Of course, you only deinterlace if your video is to be shown on a progressive medium (i.e. computer). For TV you need to maintain fields.
For PAL or NTSC in standard definition you will use “lower field first”. For HD transmission, “upper field first”

April 21, 2007 at 1:24 pm in reply to: External Monitor Preview Problem

I use HD but SD will also work with a Y/C cable.
Go to your nVidia driver software on screen but first make sure your external screen is connected to the card. The driver should recognise your second screen but may recognise it as a computer monitor rather than a NTSC monitor.
If the monitor is recognised you only need to right click on the monitor and select (external) and the appropriate resolution (SD or HD). If the monitor is not recognised you will find a tab that allows you to “force” recognition of an external monitor and then carry on the process from there. Sorry if this is a little vague but I’m not at work at the moment and doing it from memory.

Paul, back to your original issue. The Geoforce 7950GT certainly outputs Y/C to an external monitor vis Premiere Pro 2. It also outputs YUV and does a very good job as well without any delays. We’ve had this setup for over six months without any hitches.
Just make sure you have the latest drivers. BTW: It only works with the 7950 card and above.

April 18, 2007 at 4:34 am in reply to: Premiere CS3 Beta is not really a Beta!

I guess like Tom says it is not a Beta nor is it a preview because more than half the features (the important features) are missing. From a testing perspective you cant do much and if Adobe want to use it as a sales tool, well that fails too. You certainly wouldn’t buy it from what’s available. Good try anyway, Adobe. At least you’re thinking outside the box.
