Output to NTSC Monitor
Posted by John Davies on January 20, 2006 at 6:11 pmI have a Matrox RT.x10 that outputs from Premiere to an external monitor.
I would have to upgrade to output from AE or Photoshop. I’m also concerned about the bugginess of the drivers in my PC.
Is there a device that will output from Premier, AE, etc to an external monitor? I would look it up on Google but I don’t know what to call it.

January 20, 2006 at 7:12 pmThere is a nice video card that can do it – the Matrox Parhelia. It knows about Adobe products and is not the same as just copying the PC screen out to the TV like pther cards.

Premiere, etc output to DV(firewire) from there you can use a Converter DV->Analog or the DV->Analog passthrough on a DV camcorder, Canopus: http://www.canopus.us or ADStech: http://www.adstech.com both make various A/V->DV-A/v converters.

January 22, 2006 at 4:49 pmThe Matrox Parhelia APVe works with HDV. It has Component outputs and some magic driver that knows about After Effects, Premiere Pro and Photoshop.

January 23, 2006 at 10:09 amG’day Steven,
If he’s using the RTX-10 (or for that matter the RTX-100) he is unlikely to be using HDV. Neither card works with HDV.Redgum Television Productions

January 23, 2006 at 10:12 amBy the way, there is a driver for the RTX-100 that outputs to NTSC a range of Adobe products.

My response to him was for DV. Then you said HDV. And I then said that there was a version of the Parhelia that did HDV. And then you said that he didn’t want HDV. Hey!!! Make up your mind! 🙂

January 23, 2006 at 5:07 pmI’m so glad to be getting all this information.
I’m currently not HDV, but now hearing about is is making me think.
One additional question, when new versions of the Adobe software comes out, do the Parhelia drivers need to be updated by Matrox?
That’s one of my concerns about the RT.X10. So far, they have been good at updating the drivers, but eventually I expect support to stop. Matrox already said that Encore 2.0 won’t be supported.

January 23, 2006 at 6:51 pmI imagine that there may be a need for new drivers, but not necessarily. It should not be a problem since Matrox and Adobe are tied together with Axio and many Photoshop users have the Parhelia card. Both are high profile.
