As I understand it simply installing your new card will not bring up the GPU Effects. I think you need to repair or re-install Premiere Pro. These effects are only present on installation if PPro recognises your video card as suitable.

Two LCD monitors will run fine with the Ti4200 at that resolution. Upgrading to faster card like the 6600GT will give you slightly more speed but no additional effects in PPro.

  • Yes, you can do that. Is there any reason you can’t go back direct to tape from Adobe?

Why not Ghost it and if it doesn’t work – re-install?

It works in 32 bit mode. Apps have to be written specifically for 64 bit. Maybe Prem Pro 2.0?

May 26, 2005 at 9:15 am in reply to: best antivirus software?

Abstenance is the best protection. No antivirus protection on my machine. Then again there is no Internet connection, no floppy drive and a big sign on the CD/DVD Rom saying “no insertion without clearance”. Bit tough I suppose but when you knock back two or three worms a week on the Internet machine and you do video for a living it pays dividends.

May 23, 2005 at 12:44 am in reply to: Triple Head Display Cards

Steve, you used to favour the Matrox triple head, does that not work well?

John, at this point of time there is little value in 128/256 upgrade for video work. That will change in the next 6/12 months.
Have you thought of keeping your current cards and adding a firewire to component/yc/analog external box/card for high quality realtime video monitoring. They’re not very expensive, handle HDV and far less complicated than a triple head.

Just make sure you get a written specific copyright release from your client. Better to be safe than sorry.
In actual fact you would probably be better off leaving the logo in otherwise you create intent.

You realise this is the only area where Copyright prosecutions have been 100% successful.
I guess you have paid for the footage?

April 29, 2005 at 2:46 pm in reply to: Import Powerpoint presentation to prem pro

I use a little program called CamStudio from http://www.atomixbuttons.com/vsc that screen captures at full resolution direct to an AVI file. I would do 2 or 3 PPT conversions each week and many have been to air. Makes my scan converter (about $3k’s worth) look cheap. Beauty is if you have a high resolution LCD wide screen 16:9 it will capture that format direct. It used to be freeware.
