Avid Express Pro 4.6? Looks like you may have posted to the wrong forum. I’m not sure how to change those settings in Avid.

Try turning on all of the options under your IEEE 1394 preview settings dialog:

Edit-> Preferences-> Video Preview-> check “Previews” “Mirror on computer monitor” “Interactions” and “Renders”

February 22, 2006 at 2:24 pm in reply to: AE 7 how change the durations of the PSD/comp’s layers?

If your importing your PSD’s as compositions, then you need to open the PSD comps themselves and change their durations, otherwise you wont be able to expand them on your parent comp. Continue to drill in until you see the actual psd as a layer (Alt-double-left-click on a layer to open its comp)

Alternatively you could apply time-remapping and add this line of code:
    loopOut(type = “cycle”, numKeyframes = 0)

The best way to fix this is to make an adjustment in your preferences:
Edit-> Preferences-> Import-> set your your “Still Footage” to a specific time, like 30 sec

I definitely see what you mean.

It almost looks to me like a frame rate issue. As if the footage started as 24p and was poorly converted to 30p. Check the frame rate of all your footage and comps and make sure they all match, and then check your output module.

Also, try rendering an uncompressed AVI master, and see if it has the same jumpiness.

Are you talking about a color change when you preview on your RGB monitor, or in After Effects itself?

  • I live and work in New Orleans, and work exclusively in After Effects. I also do animations similar to this all the time.

I’ll do it free-of-charge, drop me a line.

Keylight is a good (and FAST) keyer, but you need to tweak it to get good good results. It’s default settings can produce some alpha channel artifacting that might be causing your jitter.

Open up Keylight’s “Screen Matte” twirly, and play around with the “Clip Black” and “Clip White” settings. You may also find it useful to set your “View” to “Combined Matte” when refining your key. When viewing it this way make sure the background is deep black, and you subject is solid white.

Yes, AE can utilize 2g of ram. Currently the max it will see is 4; which sucks, as I have 8 (x64).

From what I recall AE will see and utilize your RAM automatically. If you want to check it it’s:

    Edit-> Preferences-> Memory & Cache

It would also help if AE7 would have supported 8 gigs of ram in XP x64 (which I have, and it doesnt).

I work with some _huge_ comps that I pan-and-scan, and I still have to be mindfull of my memory usage.
