You could find a Greek font and use it with the regular AE text tools. [windows info ->] And if I’m not mistaken, several windows system fonts contain Greek characters. Try opening the “Character Map” widget in the “Accessories-> System Tools” menu to see if a particular font has the extended Greek characters.

Try the “Audio Waveform” filter. This should do exactly what your asking.

The above definition of “Banding” is what I imagined when I read your post, and I think Steve’s diagnosis of your problem is probably more accurate.

More than likely, this is compression artifacting.

Try exporting your video “Uncompressed”, and see the banding still shows up.

If it doesn’t, then the problem lies in how your compressing your video during export. If you must use the Avid codec try increasing its “Quality” setting, or bit rate ( I don’t use that codec, so this may or may not be possible) Otherwise, I’d consider using a different output codec. I use DV, or HUFFY YUV, depending on the job.

  • Expand the properties of “Black Solid 1” and select the “Position” property before you use “Smoother”.

    I just re-read your post.

If you cant just import the title, then I would export from avid using a lossless codec (huffy, PNG 100%, etc) and import into AE. Make sure your comp is set to match the Avid projects settings (progressive/interlaced, frame rate. etc) Create your animation and then Export from AE using the same lossless codec, and once again making sure the output module matches your Avid timeline settings.

A least destructive way to do this would be to export your title animation from AE with an alpha channel, and layer this above your video in Avid. You could pre-render a thumbnail in Avid to use as a guide in AE, and then remove that layer before you export.

It may help to be a little more specific. Is this a commercial you’ve seen? Do you want to animate the speakers or sound-waves? etc etc

Seriously, plan on attending, the classes are primo. This would be the best way to jump start you’re AE, Premiere and Lightwave knowledge.

Create the red-dot as Chris describes above, but then try adding the “Glow” filter to the dot. This would look _especially_ nice in AE7 using 32bit color space.

Play around w) the “Glow” effect’s properties until you get the halo you want, and then as Chris said try playing with the entire layer’s transfer mode to finish it off.

Animate the layer as you normally would, apply an Easy-ease to your keyframes and make curve-handle adjustments as needed.
