While in a flat view (right or top) press shift V and you will get your view options, there is a place there to load an image.

THat looks pretty high poly to me, in addition with a boolean it will be pretty hard to have anything else in the scene.

There is a very easy low poly way to get threads explained here. And they work great on a high res models as well.

Many people use displament on for the threads and avoid polys all together.

Or if you need to to do it this way check your intermediate points on your splines. helix will have to a have a few but the square can be set on none. Then the other boolean object looks like it has a lot of polys too, maybe cut them way down and use a hypernurbs to round it out.

No photoshop is not alone in creating creating seperate mattes. You can do this with nearly all photo editing software.
You can animate these with with any compositing package.
Combustion, After effects, Nuke, Shake, Fusion, Flame, Motion, even flash.
You can also animate those if you apply them as textures in any 3D application.

If you need so many faces to work on perhaps you may want to try modeling with hypernurbs.
Here is a great starter tutorial that will help you with many of the modeling tools and show the most common approach to modeling in cinema. Its free but you need to to sign up.

The Math Node is the speed control.
As you can see I have it set on multiply (default is ADD). Then you just input a number that is more than 1. 2 will be twice the speed so you will want a small number.
I generally connect a user data slider to math node so you can adjust on the fly.

    Here is an expresso solution.
You do not need the math node but it gives you the option to adjust the rotation speed.

January 6, 2010 at 6:59 pm in reply to: No alpha channel ?

Are you opening it in Photoshop? If so you have to activate it manually.

When rendering there is an option to view the different Passes or Channels you should look there to see if there is an Alpha.

I would box model the whole thing (just sculpt a cube).
Here is a good tutorial that can walk you through cinema’s modeling. Its free but you need to be a member.

There will only be alpha if there is nothing there. So if you are using a sky object, or background object the channel will be white.

I dont know anyway you wont have to move the points yourself.
The morph tag is the tool I would use.
