    I’m trying to create a threaded screw and the boolean object isn’t rendering in the viewport or a high-resolution render. I thought this would be considered a very small number of polygons, but apparently there is something I’m doing that is causing this object to fail to be rendered.

    I don’t see a way to attach a file to this post, so I’ll try to explain the best I can…

    I start with a helix spline and get the dimensions setup to look something like a screw thread. Then I create a Sweep Nurbs using the helix as the second spline (path spline) and a 4-side spline. This created a diamond pattern that follows the path of the helix. Then I create a simple cylinder that fits inside of the Sweep Nurbs. All is fine at this point and looks like:

    Then I create a new Boole object and add the objects so that the cylinder is first, and then helix is second and leave the boolean type to A subtract B. When I do it stops rendering in the viewport and it looks like:

    At this point it doesn’t render any way I’ve tried so far.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    THat looks pretty high poly to me, in addition with a boolean it will be pretty hard to have anything else in the scene.

    There is a very easy low poly way to get threads explained here. And they work great on a high res models as well.

    Many people use displament on for the threads and avoid polys all together.

    Or if you need to to do it this way check your intermediate points on your splines. helix will have to a have a few but the square can be set on none. Then the other boolean object looks like it has a lot of polys too, maybe cut them way down and use a hypernurbs to round it out.

    I was able to break a test by making the helix exactly the right size, try making it’s start and end radius just a bit larger or smaller or the square a bit smaller or larger.
