Has anyone tried the P2Log Pro from Imagine?

    Exactly,
The AVC-Intra codec is H.264 NOT Long GOP MPEG2 like the AVCHD codec is.
    Totally different critter.
I suppose it will be next year before FCP Supports it.
The boards for the HPX-2000 cameras just came out.
$3,000! but I think if you can double your recording time on the P2 cards it would be worth it.

    This looks like the future….

    https://www.inphase-technologies.com/products/media.asp?subn=3_2

But I think I will go with Hard Drives until they can bring the
price Down and the storage capacity and transfer rates up
    on these puppies.

$18,000 for the Drive and $180 for 300GB Media!

    50 Year shelf life.

    Shane,
Tell me more about using Blue Ray for Archiving.
I haven’t made the jump to P2 yet but I am about to and my concern is a viable archiving solution.
Burning everything to Blue Ray would be an extra step = more time to archive than just putting the hard drive on the shelf.
But, I suppose the cost factor and reliablity factor come into play.
What are your thoughts? What are the Pros and Cons to Blue Ray vs. putting a FW Drive on the shelf?

I am actually considering just backing up to a hard drive and putting it on the shelf just like tape. The advantage is that I can put my FCP project files and DVD studio pro files and AE Files, etc.. on the drive with the media. so that if I ever have to revisit that project for whatever reason.. I can just plug in the FW drive and go.
I would make a back up of that drive as well just in case one drive fails I still have a back up. I can do this for about the same cost as we are currently spending on tape but I figure this will be a tremendous time saver later on should we need to revise something.

    OK Maybe I’m crazy but….

what if the browser looked more like a mini version of the iTunes movie browser… with cover flow/list combo view with Audio and Video scrubable thumbnails.
You can’t tell me that wouldn’t be cool and useful
They already have everything layed out, why not use it in FCP?
    I can see it… can’t you?

yeah, I know all that. But the point is it would be nice to be able to actually play the clips in the browser instead of having to load them in the viewer. An example of where this would come in handy is let’s say…
when you have a 50 different talking heads that all look the same and you can’t remember which one a certain sound bite came from and you need to find it quick. If you could just tab down to the next one and play a few seconds of each clip you could find it faster, rather than having to load each freakin one in the viewer before you can play it. As far as scrubbing in the browser, I can’t seem to get audio to scrub or play.
And YES I do have audio scrubbing activated in the view menu.

I just thought it would be pretty cool if each Icon was a QT Thumbnail Player similar to what is available in the OSX Column view of the finder.
