Good suggestion, unfortunately didn’t work. Saving, yes, good idea. Funny thing was the day before it died, I thought, you know, I ought to save this. That’s what happens when you get TOO busy. The good thing is I rendered it out…not all the way finished but workable. Just can’t change anything.

Yes, other files are fine. I just got a new graphics card and it has a mind of its own and shuts off while the computer is on. Therefore, have to reset the computer…I think this killed it…it really sucks but oh well. Backup, backup backup.

AE opens up and then the error, so it never opens the file. I had a system crash while the program was open, and I think that killed it. Dunno if there’s any way to recover.

I tried to link Encore to AE…the links are grayed out. It works on Premiere though…just not on Encore, dunno why.

It also depends upon what you want to do with it. There are TONS and TONS of 3rd party plugins for Max to make your life easier. I chose max because there are a lot of forums, training and support for it. Realize that no matter which one you choose, there is a STEEP learning curve. AE is a cakewalk compared to max or maya. Total training has some great vids on max that will get you started pretty quick.

As far as integration goes, you render out your movie and import it. And, you’d better have a fast processor. I do, and I just rendered out a four second sequence and it took just over four hours to render! haha.

It’s 720×480 uncompressed. Video clips plus animation. My thought is that Encore is having to do a lot of work compressing it and there’s got to be huge losses. Does the link make the final output better?

You seem to know a lot about particular. On this sequence, I’m basically using a cutting torch to crate letters. I’ve got sparks flying and the blue lens flare looks great. I’m trying to create smoke. I saw a post for this but somone said just use foam(without any directions). I know particular can do it, but I’m ending up with clouds. haha. And when I get it close, the smoke doesn’t go up, it follows the moving spot across the screen. I’d like to have a nice smoke that comes up from the ‘beam’ and follow up from that point. A light smoke that lingers a second.

I know what you mean about troubleshooting. I know a lot more now about particle generators now trying to figure it out. After three days of creating a 4 second logo, I went another way. I took the schematic looking letters and then transformed them into a 3d looking text that looks like it was carved out. I did this to look like an acr welder. With a nice blue rotating lens flare, and a couple of particlular layers I did it. Thanks for the help.

Just curious is name “moldyboot” becuase of the damp weather in Seattle???

Thanks Moldyboot. After four more hours of frustration, I think I’m going to try and use 3d stroke. If you look at what he’s done, the swirls are very uniform, and they dissapear really nice. To get that uniform swirling is really hard, they are shooting off in all sorts of directions…I think it’s becuase they don’t start from the same location. Some swirls are way above and others below. Dunno, but this guy as WOWfactorx said, I think a lot gets lost in his translation. He simple says “adjust parameters.” Too bad too, because he has some cool stuff.

I found that if I hit “autocolor” it made it look a lot better. Is this for more inexperienced users?
