    Hi,
I work as an after effects designer/editor and I’m reviewing Cine4D, Maya, and 3D Max, but don’t know where to begin. I have read so many great things about Cine4D and its integration with After Effects. I’m leaning toward purchasing a couple licenses of it, but am a little weary on its lack of training and the fact that it isn’t as much of an industry standard as Maya and 3D Max… regardless, I thought I would come here, to my home away from home and ask you for your opinion. What are your thoughts on purchasing one of the 3. Have you had any problems with the 3, what was the learning curve, and how seamlessly does 4D integrate with AE? What about About Maya or 3D max?

    Thank you,
    Iann

I chose cinema 7 years back, and I don’t regret it. It has tight integration. You can actually output an AE file out of C4D to make your life easier. It isn’t nearly as robust as max or maya, but I figured I didn’t need the confusion 🙂

Cinema is great with motiongraphics stuff. Not saying that max or maya isn’t, but they don’t have a specific module for it. For the price point of a standard license, advanced render, tgp, and mograph, you can really get a lot of BANG for your buck. Some people don’t consider it professional, but when you make your choice you’ll realize that it isn’t about the software, its entirely about the artist.

How many times has this come up? Who knows anymore. Every piece of software has its ups and downs. Its about you making a decision and sticking to it, and not regretting it. I could have chosen Combustion a few years back, but I didn’t, and I don’t regret being an AE user.

    Invest in 3dfluff.com and lynda.com.

Did you check the sticky post at the top of the forum? This comes up a lot.

It also depends upon what you want to do with it. There are TONS and TONS of 3rd party plugins for Max to make your life easier. I chose max because there are a lot of forums, training and support for it. Realize that no matter which one you choose, there is a STEEP learning curve. AE is a cakewalk compared to max or maya. Total training has some great vids on max that will get you started pretty quick.

As far as integration goes, you render out your movie and import it. And, you’d better have a fast processor. I do, and I just rendered out a four second sequence and it took just over four hours to render! haha.

Having touched all 3 programs, I learned some Max and Maya when I was in school, and when I started working after I graduated, I have learned Cinema. As a motion graphic artist, I have to say I love Cinema4D much more. To me it just seems more user friendly than the other two programs, and when you have to know tons of programs as it is and keep up to date with them, that for me is very awesome to have an easier learning curve with a 3D program. Im still learning everything, as Im still very new in the industry, but when I buy my own work station, I will definetly choose Cinema 4D. Hope this helps.
