    Hi,

The video is presently windowboxed. When I turn on anamorphic in the sequence settings, the video becomes stretched (squished) and for this particular video that doesn’t look right.

Perhaps I’m stuck with the windowbox look?

The very original video was shot in HD by one of the top cinematographers in LA but i then exported the video from FCP about 8 years ago with Sorenson Video 3 Decompressor codec. I was a fool, i assumed that “decompressor” in the name meant that it was “uncompressed” full quality. Anyay, hopefully, it is still good enough quality for TV broadcast.

Just to clarify one of my questions above, The Sorenson video is widescreen, but after i transcoded it to DV NTSC the new video is not widescreen. Is there a way to restore the widescreen of the original in the sequence settings? I cannot re-transcode the video as I have already edited the entire piece.

    thank you.

Oh just to clarify, the kind of stretching i am looking for is similar to the “free transform’ function you
find on Photoshop, only this would be on FCP7.

  • OK thanks Shane!

Just curious, if AVI is nothing more that a container and the ATV clip already has the exact same DV PAL settings as the quicktime clip, then what’s the need to transcode?

  • Hi,
I already edited Video 1 (the one i said is a Quicktime movie) in FCP7 without converting it first. The reason I called it a Quicktime movie is because that’s what it says under file “Kind” in the Apple finder. Anyway, FCP7 already recognized it as a DV/PAL format. So i take it, i should only need to convert the AVI clip then?

That’s what I was looking for, thank you!

I just posted a new question about a different video I am now editing in FCP7 if you have a chance to check it out.

    thank you

    Hi
I had already read that link you sent me, however it was confusing for me.
My question is what is best way to export (what settings) from FCP7 to get best specs for YouTube.

Thank you Shane! I went ahead and transcoded and the editing has been smooth and problem-free!

I also have some new footage for a different video that i’m wondering if needs to be transcoded, i posted that question in a separate post if you have a chance to check it.
    thanks

    thanks,

can u tell from the specs i gave whether it’s HD or not? I know the footage was originally shot on a professional $100,000 digital video camera.

  • OK, in that case I will stick with mountain lion….and also won’t allow the Codec update . There is another update available for my computer which is Pro Applications Update 2010-02 1.0. Perhaps that one is good? It says it’s recommended for Final Cut Studio users as well.

Also, I have the full Final Cut Studio package. But on my gf’s computer I want to install only the FCP7 and Compressor apps (she has limited space on her laptop). Would i be able to add the Motion app at a later date or would i end up having to do the entire installation over again?

    thanks
