mixing 2 videos (slightly diff specs) together in FCP7 timeline
Hi, the 2 videos I have are almost the exact same specs. But there is only a slight differnece, the first video is QuickTime and the second video has dot AVI extension in file name. i am wondering if they will work together in the same FCP7 sequence.
Video 1 (already edited in timeline):
DV 720×576 (768×576 actual), millions
16-bit integer (Big Endian), stereo, 48 khz
25 fps
data rate: 30.34 Mbit/sVideo 2 (i just received this and will cut it into the timeline with Video 1):
DV 720×576 (768×576 actual), millions
A-Law 2:1, stereo, 48 khz
25 fps
data rate: 29.67 Mbit/sOK please let me know if i have to transcode Video 2 to use it in Video 1’s sequence or if i’ll be fine without transcoding Video 2.

QUicktime and AVI are containers…that’s the only difference. FCP doesn’t work with AVI, so you need to use Compressor to convert it to DV/PAL. BOTH videos should be converted to that format, as FCP doesn’t just work with any QT format…it needs to be in an FCP editing codec. DV/PAL is one.

Hi,
I already edited Video 1 (the one i said is a Quicktime movie) in FCP7 without converting it first. The reason I called it a Quicktime movie is because that’s what it says under file “Kind” in the Apple finder. Anyway, FCP7 already recognized it as a DV/PAL format. So i take it, i should only need to convert the AVI clip then? -

Just curious, if AVI is nothing more that a container and the ATV clip already has the exact same DV PAL settings as the quicktime clip, then what’s the need to transcode?
