You may have a hardware problem.
I strongly recommend tech tool pro.
    You’re lucky saving the data.

  • You need to do a clean install.
wipe out one hard drive or a partition. Install Leopard, update leopard, then applications, update applications.
    Leave your system 4.11 untouched.
Check your new system, run new projects on it, until you’re sure everything works. Don’t mix projects. One project started on 4.11 leave it on 4.11.
I’m working with leopard for over half a year now and I still have a complete system of 4.9 on one of my hd’s

I know that the blackmagic/decklink is not too bad and it’s cheaper than the AJA IO HD. You may need the portability of the Box in the future. I’ve had it and was lucky, it also worked on the laptop. It saves me 1000 bucks rental a year, because we are doing a yearly show on it.
With the Matrox I have no experience. I know, that for most resellers its better, because the margin they earn is higher. I also don’t know anybody professional using it.
Most pros use AJA or Blackmagic/Decklink.

So, say you get some HD Stuff through Hard drive in the computer you can do 4:4:4 editing with IO HD?

  • Hi Joel,

If you shoot HD with a proper HD Camera, you should use an HD Monitor in the field. Why cutting on a control instrument, which gives you control over focus and colour, which I assume are important features? If you change lenses for examle, you need a proper HD SDI link for check on focus. I would definitely go for an HD monitoring. The workflow you have experienced, sounds good, but is probabla down to a lot of testing beforehand.
    Two things:
If you have got time, experience and testing performance, you can save some bucks.
If your field conditions get worse or you haven’t got time it’s silly to experiment.

    Hi Martijn,

I would go for the AJA IO HD.
    – Aja works very close with FCP
    – Aja customer service is very good and helpful, even abroad
    – the IO HD gives you the opportunity to work with a notebook (portability)
    – If you want full HD uncompressed (4:4:4) you need a Kona3 card, because FCP6 doesn’t like firewire devices
    – IO HD is very reliable, even if you run it day and night
    – and its leopard compatible

You may need gen lock signal for both machines. Is the Dat gen lock able? Try adjust frame rates for your video track. I think you go out of sync for the length over 1 Minute.
