I am trying to sync some rushes.

I’m using fcp 5.1.4 and My project is 8 bit uncompressed.

The rushes are from HDCam – (1080 25fps 422 YUV) and DAT.

It seems to sync okay at the beginning but from about half way the audio drifts out of sync.

I’ve tried to speed up the audio to 105% and it does seem to sync better but the ending is still the same.

I suspect that the audio maybe a different frame rate (possibly 30) to the vision (25fsp). Is there a way to fix this issue in FCP or is it something else?

You may need gen lock signal for both machines. Is the Dat gen lock able? Try adjust frame rates for your video track. I think you go out of sync for the length over 1 Minute.

    Hi Dena,

If the 105% speed-up of the audio almost works then it seems that the audio is 24fps (which would need a 104.1666667% speed-up).

But it’s difficult to give any good advice without knowing more about what you are really doing.

Are you syncing to timecode or handsyncing to a slate?

Was it shot on HDCAM or is it transfered from film? If it was transfered from film it might have been shot at 24fps, but transfered at 25fps. In which case you need to convert the footage to 24fps using the Conform 25 to 24 option in the Tools menu. But don’t do that unless you’re sure…

    Hi Stephen

I am hand syncing to slate and it was shot on film then transfered to HDCAM.
From what I can tell it was shot 24fps then telecined at 25fps.

I am going to try what you have suggested.

    thank you.
