If your lion system is set to 64bit then FCP7 won’t work because it’s a 32bit program. You have to set your system to 32bit.

Speed with esata varies, depending on how full your drives are. If your drives are filled up let’s say 30 % you should get around 180-200MB/s if the drives are filled up more than 70% speed is going down to less than 100 MB/s.

You can use episode to do your compressions.
It’s the best conversion program I came across, worth every buck.

I would upgrade your Ram to 8GB. Keep snow leopard with FCP7 it works perfect. Get a second HD in the computer with mountain lion and FCPx.
32 and 64bit systems are very different. So I won’t mix them.
As FCP7 is basically outdated you should think of MC7 or Premiere, but I don’t believe in this Creative Cloud stuff.
Your computer seems okay with me.

How do you monitor the stuff?

Through a breakout box or directly from the computer? Some breakout boxes and tape decks need sync such as a blackburst signal.

Hi Emma,

I won’t transfer the clips in one big clip. What I always do – I transfer the clips into Prores, but each of them seperate with mpeg streamclip. With this program you can also make one big clip.

No, you can’t.

But if you have identical footage and a workflow dependent on each other how can you end up on different frame rates? Call her/him and discuss you problem with your collegue.
