Working with Many AVCHD Clips in FCP
Hello
I was wondering if people have any tips for working with tapeless footage when you have up to hundreds of very short clips from one event. Do you keep the clips separate, dump them to a sequence, and copy and paste from there? Do you dump them to a sequence, then export them out so they are all in one long ProRes file? Is there a plugin or converter that will merge the clips for you?

Why would you want to merge all the clips into 1 clip? Edit each clip separately.

Sometimes I’ll have 30 10-30 second clips from one event, and it’s easier to quickly scroll through them when it is merged into one clip, rather than having to select each short clip one at a time to view it

You could nest them all in a sequence and use that as your source. No reason to export a file and be destructive.

Nest the clips or create a sequence called raw footage, place all footage into sequence and scroll away. The last thing you want to do as an editor is to learn bad habits.

Hi Emma,
I won’t transfer the clips in one big clip. What I always do – I transfer the clips into Prores, but each of them seperate with mpeg streamclip. With this program you can also make one big clip.
