A real hard nut to crack!
Most bizarre Problem I ever encountered on FCP: A friend of mine is editing his Docu in FCP, now he got the music back from the Sound Designer, dropped the WAV on the TL and the beginning is sync, but in the cause of the film length of 12min, it slowly runs out of sync.
On the sound editors machine all was synced up.
So, we checked on my system, hooked up his external HD and opened the project on my Mac. The same project with the same source files suddenly is sync from beginning till the end.
So, I saved the project on my machine with Save As and opened that project again on his computer and:Again, it starts to run off sync during the film – about 8 frames.Any idea what this can be?

Final Cut prefers AIFF files to WAV.

Can’t be the reason. For one we also tried with AIFF. and second: the exact same project played just fine on another MAC with FCP.

audio sample rates in agreement?

How do you monitor the stuff?
Through a breakout box or directly from the computer? Some breakout boxes and tape decks need sync such as a blackburst signal.

On both computers, we watched the material over the DVI connected computer monitor, not over a broadcast screen.

What do you mean? On both computers we used the same project and therefor the same project settings: apple pro res, HD, progressive, 25p.

Somewhere that’s too obvious to notice, a setting is different and causing the drift. I’ll bet a virtual donut on it.

Trash preferences on the machine where sync is an issue.
