Edit to tape will be SD (720×576 anarmophic).
    The digibeta is just 720×576.
Stick to the SD workflow (version2 10bit 422) all the time.
    cheers

    No,

version one is 1920×1080 either p or i, the way the TV station wants,
    or 720×576 anamorphic SD.
    I would not choose 720p.

    cheers

  • Hi Ray,

the Raid gives you 20Gbs data. That’s very good.
    It will suit your needs.

    cheers

    Rainer

P.S. In practise thunderbolt will be slower than the specs say, but still enough speed for your needs.
    We’re talking about thunderbolt 2

The GH4 shoots in H264 codec.
You have to convert the files into Pro Res 422 4k or HQ before editing.
You can’t edit with the H264 files.

    Best results are:

    First:
Digibeta to Pro Res 422 (No HQ no LT)
From the Pro Res file to SD matching the TV specs.

    Second:
Keep the workflow with SD in a 50MBs codec with 4.2.2 color space from start to finish.

I would choose second. Digi beta is shot with 10bit 4.2.2 codec. So any codec meeting these specs is fine.
The less you transcode, the better the result in the end.

    cheers

Something was different between the working workflow and the last workflow that failed.
Any software updates between the two?

    cheers

March 15, 2015 at 1:06 pm in reply to: Looking for a Quiet thunderbolt raid 6 (16 to 24tb)

The best raid systems are not quiet.
    They need the fan power!
So a silent rack is your solution,

  • I stick with Tyler,

6 or 8bay – for editing the read speed is mor crucial than the write speed.
You are getting the most out of thunderbolt with both arrays.
The 8bay just gives you more space.

    cheers
