Thank you guys for your suggestions.

Matt, the reason why I upconverted everything first was the producer wanted to do it for archive purposes. I was going to have to recapture everything anyways because this is a project that originated on Sony Vegas and I am taking it to FCP.

Shane, I would like to do it the correct way and I will try to convince them that it’s the best way to go. I have a couple of questions about my final steps in compressor.

    1. To change the frame rate I first select the video settings button from the second tab in the inspector and change it to custom 23.98? Then from the third menu I turn on frame controls, set resize to best, output fields to Progressive and deinterlace to best. With rate conversion to best and duration to 100%?

    2. With frame rates of 29.97, 25 and 23.98 I am choosing 23.98 as common rate. Right now the only planned delivery is a Blu Ray DVD for festivals. Everything has been up-converted to ProRes 1080i. With a Sequence setting of HDTV1080i and rate of 23.98 what does this mean for progressive material. Does it become PSF once it’s dropped into the timeline? I am unclear what happens to progressive material once it’s dropped into a 1080i23.98 project.

Thank you all again. Happy Holidays,

    Rafael

    Thanks John,

Unfortunately I think thats what I will have to do. I’m sort of backed into a corner with the time and budget constraints. The amount of footage is massive and I just feel it would take way to long to do.

What I have found is that it is very inconsistent. I have imported folders which have prompted warnings then reimported the same folder and received no warning. Thanks for your suggestions.

I figured it out. The preview that I see in my capture window while I am logging the tapes is not a true representation of the image that will be captured. Once I actually captured part of the tape for a test it had been unconverted as needed.

    Jerry,

This deck does not have rs422 control. I have the deck connected directly to the firewire port which controls the deck just fine.

I got picture through a menu setting so that works now.

I’m trying to do some upconversion tests with the new matrox box that I bought testing various hd frame sizes.

When I try to use the Matrox presets for capture/input I get an unable to locate the capture devise warning.

I’m still coming up to speed with the Matrox box seeing that it’s 8hrs old.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Rafael

It’s a deck issue. I turned the mxo2 off to trouble shoot. The deck is supposed to do pal and ntsc and for some reason it I don’t get a video signal when I put the pal tape in. I’m still going through the menus to see if I can get it to work.

    Thanks,

  • Never mind that last question. Thanks for your help.

  • Shane,

For my P2 and XD Cam files what is the best way to convert those files. I’m planning on using ProRes for all the sd footage that I up convert. Would this be something I do with Compressor to convert the p2/xd cam files to ProRes or is there a better way.

    Thanks,

    Rafael
