December 3, 2012 at 5:34 pm in reply to: DVCPRO HD Import into FCP 7 – NOT from P2 CardsThe K2 Summit is a PC based system, and for what I know the DVCPro codecs are not the exactly the same in PCs than in Mac, and they are not compatible.
Not sure which is the best work around.
The DVCPro expert around is Shane Ross.

[Deep Chattopadhyaya] “Then I remembered that the timebase of audio files can only be whole numbers i.e 24fps”
That makes no sense.
Audio don’t know about “frames”, don’t knows about time-bases.
As Michael say, the Sampling Rate is his own time-base. If an audio has been recorded at 48Khz, means that every 48.000 samples makes a second, and that every second have to be played 48.000 samples whatever the application that manage it.Have a look in FCs Browser to the 24fps clips you have conformed. You will see that the Sample rate is not anymore 48Khz.
[Deep Chattopadhyaya] “Imported the audio clip after creating the new sequence preset and then modified the timecode of the audio clip (Modify-Timecode- Deselect Source- Select Current) and then put it in the new sequence timeline.”
You said that you modified de TC audio.
That is a “destructive” operation, meaning that changes the properties of the original files.
If your audio was recorder with something like a Zoom H4, the files havs no TC, but is possible that with you modified them, you have put an TC track.
I would have a look to the Audio clips Properties (open with QT.7 > Cmd-J) and see if there is any TC track.
In case there is, delete it.

[Ed Caraballo] “does not see folders on my external USB drive,”
USB have never been a good option for video editing. Not even in the DV times.
The minimum required for FC was FW400.

As Nick said.
If you wan’t to get the best from the DVD, and you don’t know how the clips will be used and delivered the final product, transcode it as it is.

DVDs can have any field order (upper, lower) or being progressive.
Have a look to the Stream Info (Cmd-I) to know what are you dealing with.
In case of being Interlaced, de-interlacing or not is up to you.
If is Progressive, deinterlacing not only will be for nothing, but even will degrade the picture.

Hi Frank,
Welcome to the best video forum ever 🙂1080 stuff i always recorded on tape and streamed as Interlaced. Is what is called PSF (Progressive Segmented Frame). That means that the progressive stuff instead of being streamed or lay to tape one line after other (1, 2, 3, 4..) is divided in two fields and first are printed/lay the Upper field lines (1, 3, 5,..) and then the Lower field lines (2, 4, 6,..) of the picture.
You just have to edit your stuff on a Progressive (NONE) sequence, and when printing to video the IO card will make it Interlaced (PSF) automatically.

December 2, 2012 at 2:30 pm in reply to: “Not optimized” error in FCP7 when importing RGBto5D transcoded clips – should I care?I don’t think the “Not optimized” has any thing to do with the audio.
The fact is that there is something funky with 5DtoRGB (on the payed version) too, that makes the Prores shows up as an LGOP codec, when, of course, is Intraframe.
Try to conform in Cinematools any Prores from 5DyoRGB and you will see that is impossible. There is something wrong in the way that the application build the QT wrap, the metadata, or whatever.
I think this might be the issue.
However the “Not optimized” changes nothing on editing. No problem with them.BTW, if you make the painful effort to convert through 5DtoRGB, would be better to do it to Prores or ProresHQ. IMO ProresLT is OK when the footage won’t undergo further processing, but if you intend to apply filters, Color Grade, etc. is not the best option.
[Nick Ravich] ” I varied up 601-709/broadcast-full range and seem to get the same result.”
Keep Broadcast range.[Nick Ravich] “Sent an e-mail to Rarevision support but they’ve been slow to respond in past.”
Don’t bother you. I did it months ago and they posted back but no consistent answers on this issue and another one (Chroma processing as Interlaced on Progressive footage). They haven’t fixed nothing.

December 2, 2012 at 2:12 pm in reply to: Final Cut Pro asks for rendering all the time and the format is correct[Elena Macián Masip] “. I’m using clips filmed with a Canon 60D and format is:
23,98 fps
1920×1080
H.264
“
That stuff is not supported by FC. It needs to be converted to Prores.
