By the way I want to ask you something. In one post of you about Betacam SP, you wrote:Do that mean that a DV NTSC 420 would have very little vertical resolution and wouldn’t give enough quality? Would them be PAL 411 too good for a no-Professional standard? Is it worth to pay the difference of price for the PAL DVCPro comparing with MiniDV or DVCam?

Hi Creeker,
Have you re-installed the Kona drivers? At least with the Blackmagic, when re-installing FC or AE they recommend to re-install the drivers after.

What I meant was “preset”. You said that the export fails almost in the end. So I thouthg that you may be using a Compressor “preset” like “Web Download QT 7 compatible” or so. Are based in the h.264 and with MPG4 audio. I thought your export could be failing when arribing to process the audio. Sorry I haven’t be very helfull.
Between Diskwarrior and TechtoolsPro? The two of them make basically the same disk optimization but Techtools can make a more complete set of tests, not only to your HDs but also to your RAM, DVD driver etc. With these applications you can optimice all the HDs but the one that is running the System (to rebuilt a disc directory, the disc must be un-mounted). So if you want to optimice your main HD you have to run the application from another HD or a CD.
And here Techtools have a clear advantage. Even if you have only a HD you can optimice the disc without starting from any other HD or CD, Something that is call “e-Disk” or so. So if any time your system wouldn’t open, the “e-Disk” would start your computer and lets you repair your directoties.
You can set your HDs Journaled or Un-journaled when formating them. Also you can enable the journaling with the “Disk utility”. To disable the jounaling I think ycan be done with MaCaroni or Cocktail that are application for disk maintenace (Permissions, cache cleaning etc).

As you said before, better to keep in the same color space. Why not Sheer 10b, YCbCr{A} 4.4.2{4}, or better 4.4.4{4}?

I think you can export it as Tiff or PNG or Ps. They support Alpha channel and you can open them in FC.

I’m very sorry. I always thougth that the YUV color space was more reduced than the RGB. As the most part of the people that have been editing analog for years I haven’t face the RGB world untill recently. And I face it with a real lack of information and knowledge.
I tend to assimilate YUV with YCbCr and I know they are not the same thing at all, but I don’t know the real difference (appart of the digital fact). There is any book or document where I can learn about that? I promisse I will study it and try don’t missinform nobody else (starting by my self) 🙂

Hi TB,
I do not understand the problem. When you download a clip from a video-desk the capturing is done in real time, so when you capture a 10 minutes clip this should take 10 minutes. There is not way to speed it up.

You can monitor through Firewire conecting the monitor or TV to the video-out of the camara or video-desk that you use for capturing, or through a video-card (Blackmagic, AJA, etc) conecting your minitor to the output (Composit, Components, RGB, SDI,..) of the video-card.

In the brownser you got a columm: Field Dominance. You got three options: Upper first, Lower first and None (progresive).
But you must set the correct order of the clip before to bring it to the time-line. If you try to change it once you have lied down in the sequence, it doesn’t work.
As we talk before, the first thing you must do is to know the field order of your footage. To do that in FC you need an interlaced monitor or a TV. In your computer monitor you will never be sure is the order is properly set and you may have a bad surprise when you’ll play your DVD.
If you haven’t got a TV or interlaced monitor, you can use AE or Shake. You must set it that the application play field-by-field. This method I will explain to you more in deep if you need it, but now I don’t want to mix you up.
