August 6, 2008 at 2:35 pm in reply to: RAW-FCP-AE workflow questionsthanks mike,
this sounds like a winner, so with the uncompressed 10bit you still had the color depth of RAW? I would also need to bring the fcp after the edit was done back into AE for some effects work and color correct, I was planning on just importing the xml file into AE using the popcorn island script fcptoae. Do you know if I would replace the proxy before this step so the fcp file was referencing the 10bit footage or could I wait and do this with the proxy file? -

August 6, 2008 at 1:52 pm in reply to: RAW-FCP-AE workflow questionsthanks for the “advice” gary
I do understand RAW format and that a conversion needs to take place for FCP as it does not support raw format but AE does support it which is why I am asking about the workflow. I did not know that quicktime supports raw format and can make proxy files from a raw format still which is what I understood the comment “ever though about trying to understand the use of a proxy file or that they can be made in the QT player?” to mean underneath the condescending tone. Yes gary I have thought about trying to understand how this all works, which Is why I post questions. To learn from people who do know. -

August 6, 2008 at 2:24 am in reply to: RAW-FCP-AE workflow questionsthanks, but Not sure if this would work in my case, I really need to be able to finesse the edit and working with raw files in AE this would be difficult… If my animation was spot on then I think going directly into AE would solve all issues but Ive got to add frames here and take away frames there mess with the speed etc… all of which I really need to do while watching a reeltime playback which again would be difficult in AE, correct? or is there something Im missing.
Is there an easy way to designate proxy files in FCP? I know some file formats automatically do this but not Still images. I looked for an easy means of replacing the low res with high res files after I was done with the edit but there just doesnt seem to be a native means of doing this…or again maybe im missing something
thanks for your response

August 19, 2007 at 4:58 pm in reply to: FINAL CUT EXPORTING CLIPS WITH OFF TIME DURATIONSWell Thanks for the advice but I can’t afford 500 for the importer, so if you have other advice for the export that would be great, maybe a second choice of export settings for the format I am working in. Im really jsut trying to figure out this discrepency in the time have you seen anything like that before?
Also can you please tell me how to turn on the film safe setting so I can see if this is the problem? also would this account for clips being different lenghts? it seems like you are saying it counts for timecode variations but does this apply to durations?
thanks

August 19, 2007 at 4:42 pm in reply to: FINAL CUT EXPORTING CLIPS WITH OFF TIME DURATIONSI checked out the manual and read the definition, which unfortunately really didn’t mean much to me, I do low budget personal projects that will never be transfered to film. Are you saying I should have film safe turned on? off? I saw that film safe is in a column in the browser but Im not sure where you would turn this on or off. It looks like in my browser that none of my clips are film safe…
I Also looked up automatic duck which has the exporter for free which is cool, but according to the description you need to buy a $500 importer to use it with AE, Can you use it without the importer?
Thanks

August 19, 2007 at 4:23 pm in reply to: FINAL CUT EXPORTING CLIPS WITH OFF TIME DURATIONSIm sorry Im a bit of a novice still at this so when you say “film safe” are you refering to safe vs. unlimited RT? In that case I am using Unlimited RT otherwise Im not sure what you are referring to please elaborate and I will check on my project. I also don’t know what “Automatic Duck” is can you please explain this as well?
Thank you so much for your response
Danny

August 19, 2007 at 3:45 pm in reply to: FINAL CUT EXPORTING CLIPS WITH OFF TIME DURATIONSIn the export options there is a current frame rate option which I leave alone because the current frame rate is 23.98, I have double checked the framerate of the exported clips in quictime using the movie info dialogue box and it comes up as 23.98

August 19, 2007 at 3:38 pm in reply to: FINAL CUT EXPORTING CLIPS WITH OFF TIME DURATIONSIm using quicktime conversion to use the no compression feature? What settings would you export that type of footage as? Ive tried the regular export of quicktime files but the quality seems bad when I export as DV NTSC

August 1, 2007 at 4:08 pm in reply to: PRINT TO TAPE-24fps timeline issuesI was able to remedy the problem just a little late for yesterdays mailing but oh well such is life…
it was an aspect ratio issue. The footage was captured and edited at 720×486 I just placed the sequence in a 720×480 timeline and it worked. Thanks everybody for all of the suggestionsDanny

July 31, 2007 at 8:23 pm in reply to: PRINT TO TAPE-24fps timeline issueswell thanks for the advice,
Im still not quite sure what you meant by changing my video output to 29.97 and the view menu instructions View-Video Playback-dv 29.97 I am hoping to try this. Also If the firewire was messed up im not sure why I would be able to see the video frame by frame when changing the view-external-current frame. And also I do get a clear audio signal. I think it has to be a setting somewhere I just have to find the right combination…Danny
