If your option is 1080i (60 samples per second) versus 24P, then more per second is better if you have fast action. This probably allows you to reduce motion blur (play with shutter) as well.

However Twixtor in Avid implies a bit of fooling around if your source media is not at the frame rate of your final render.

Example going to a 24P project:

1-open a 60i (30 FPS interlaced) project in Avid. import the native 60i footage into this project.
2-apply the Twixtor plugin. Set the speed reduction to 24/30=.8 and render. mixdown or transcode the video to a new sequence.
3-close the 60i project and open a new 24p project. within this 24p project, open the bin from the 60i project described in step 2
4-drag the mixed down sequence from step 2 into the timeline. avid will ask you if you want to reset the framerate to the project framerate(which is 23.976). Answer yes
5-the Sequence on the timeline is now 23.976fps which can be exported to a master

Would help to know for what host as handling of frame rate is different in different applications.

If you want your final at 29.97 why do you need to go to 24 FPS first?

There is no way for us to support mask shapes (geometry) in FCP. You can however somewhere else create some mattes and import them in your project and use that in Twixtor. Before we go there, you can also send a short clip to us to see what is going on. There is a Contact Support form in the Support tab on our website that will send a response with ftp site info is the movie is too large.

PRO supports matte layers but you have to externally create these in FCP as there is no roto tool in the app.

But first, I presume you do the Cinema Tools trick explained here:

So Twixtor actually has 60 frames to work from to make the 24P

If what you want is a movie at 50 FPS, rather then a 2X slowmo.
Simply: drop the 25P movie into a comp, change comp rate to 50 FPS, set input frame rate to 25 in Twixtor, and render out the 50 FPS comp at 50 FPS.
