  • * If you need to animate parameters (eg work in Frame mode rather then straight constant speed change)

    * Another major reason in IFF is that you need that version to work in batch

Slightly tangential but here you go:

If you have a large arsenal of AE plugins note that Motion Intel Mac does not yet support AE plugins on MacTel side (only FCP, support meaning here not turned off). I think the latest PPC dot release of Motion finally does fix some long standing AE support issues on the PPC side. It’s fine that Apple promotes it’s own FXPlug API but isn’t a great value that some application like Fusion have their own native API and support as well AE plugins? The majority of our clients on the Mac for AE plugins use AE and FCP (sure there all kinds of variations on that theme) so they would not be well served if Apple persists on wanting to NOT continue supporting AE compatible plugins, by then having to buy 2 times the same thing just because a company thinks marketing wise it’s not comfortable to say we support an Adobe owned specification.

I heard (not tried) as well the capacity to load a Motion project embedded in a Quicktime movie in AE is back working as well, as such you can use as a sort of import plugin in AE instead of Particle Playground and things like that, so the fact that it comes “free” with FCP means you will find applications for it even if you still use AE.

I am under the impression that he is asking if you can drag and drop a plugin from an OS to another, regardless of a particular vendor licensing policy.

I am just saying the actual plugin is not binary compatible (like your betamax tape does not load in your vhs player in your video device museum). It’s the nature of compiled language like C++ (speed, efficiency) to produce instructions for a particular binary format that produces assembly instructions for particular chipset vs declarative/scripting language like java (portable but slower to interpret). In fact when AE one day supports MacIntel (like Combustion and FCP do), the old plugin for PPC won’t be compatible, it can be not obvious for you as companies like us on the Mac use the mechanism that allows to store different plugin binaries in the same file and depending on the context one or the other is loaded.

It is not impossible though. For example Fusion has announced that Fusion 5.1 on Linux will run Windows DLLs (plugin libraries) from Linux. Such scheme though are outside of the capacity of a plugin and something that only an host app could support.

Nope, exactly like you cannot run AE Windows on the Mac and for the same reason

Also for your information, sometimes (your mileage/kilometrage might vary depending on the amount of MB in source) the option in ReelSmart Motion Blur to remove motion blur (by setting the slider to an amount value under 0) is helpful on motion blur sources over green screen. Maybe then you readd the MB when compositing the layer from which MB has been removed (attenuated).

  • I would say without seeing that you would make the matte as if the object was not motion blurred. It’s hard as Motion Blur means that you have a blending (a semi-transparent foreground). If you have RSMB you might want to see if applying a negative amount like -1 produces a useful intermediate.

To add to this, not having seen the extent of the damage
If you are lucky and there is actually a way to key the streaks (as to create a matte of where the streaks are), you might be able to use something to fill in the hole. That could be RE:Fill or CC wire move as Serge suggests, that could be RE:Flex Morph if the streaks are on static elements of the scene (as opposed to cause by shiny specular stuff on something moving) or nay other clean plate type tricks, tends to be a simpler problem if the camera is locked. etc —

Do you mean the softness of deinterlaced video?
