Hi Mike… this puzzles me. Why should Vegas be started in compatibility mode for Win 7 when it is installed on a Win7 system… is it written for some weird Venutian Gostak system or something? I wonder if the programmers have been lazy and used non-documented API calls, and of course these can be twiddled with by MS in successive windows updates.

Yes, it does. It is an LG Bluray burner. Win 7 has been noted to lose optical drives, but not this time. I think it is something deep-down stuffed up by Nero, but after unchecking the legacy driver box all seems to work. I guess a re-install of Windows will be on the cards further down the line. Grumble.

It was an hour long video Stephen.

Latest build (and re-installed) 5.2 version of DVDA.

It has never happened before, so why all of a sudden has me beat until I remembered I had de-installed Nero Burning Rom. John Rofrano agrees it it is an invasive bit of software, changing things it shouldn’t. I did a registry clean after de-installation and even did a manual scan for any references to the program, but that isn’t a guarantee of success.
Anyway, all is happy in burning land now.

Thanks Steve and John. I do have Ashampoo (two licences), but uninstalled it when odd things happened that later turned out to be a dud drive. That was when I bought Nero. Last night I scrapped Nero and re-installed Ashampoo on one machine, and tonight will install on the edit machine after getting all of Nero off it.
I only had burning ROM, but the interface is anything but easy to follow… Nothing like the older original versions.

If the video is on your timeline, place the cursor where you want to split the first segment and press S. Go to the next position and press S again. S cuts the video like cutting a film with scissors.
Double click on the first segment to highlight it, go to “Render as” in the file menu and ensure “Render looped region only” is ticked and go for it.
Repeat with the other cut segments.

And thanks Mike. I do keep all the back builds and versions on file – just in case. Never had to worry about them until the last two versions, as Steve lamented.

One thing I meant to ask… can a previous build of a Pro version open a file edited by a later build of the same version?
I’d like to know before I try this new update, as it supposedly has a fix I need, but not at the expense of trashing something else.
