July 2, 2013 at 10:38 pm in reply to: Finding media in Project Explorer + Trimmer editingLooks like you have somehow ‘slid’ your directory’s first level of folders across the whole window. Just hover your mouse over the far right edge of your explorer window (in Vegas of course) until you get the double-ended arrow and then drag the edge to the left to see the folder’s contents. You may also need to click on the small down-ward arrow next to the view selection button (looks like a blue grid) and select ‘All files’. Shouldn’t need to but may reveal more.
Hope this helps. -

July 1, 2013 at 11:58 am in reply to: Finding media in Project Explorer + Trimmer editingThanks for the tip about the tab-R key.
I did wonder what, or rather why, you meant by ‘create subclip’. I know what the term means and do sometimes create a subclip on the timeline for certain purposes but, when using the trimmer (hitting the I and O keys) I simply hit the A key which adds the selected region onto the timeline. This ‘region’ can then be extended if needs be right there on the timeline.
I may well be missing something here since I rarely have a need to create a subclip but I notice in the Help sections it does say (in answer to your last para.) –
If you want to open the original media file that was used to create the subclip in the Trimmer, right-click an event on the timeline (or a subclip in the Project Media window) and choose Open Parent Media in Trimmer from the shortcut menu.So keep on experimenting! As we all do. LOL

Craig, check out this tutorial from Andrew Devis. It may have something of interest in relation to this question.
https://library.creativecow.net/devis_andrew/Sony-Vegas-Pro_4/1There are a couple of tuts relating to the media bins. Worth watching.

June 30, 2013 at 10:13 am in reply to: Finding media in Project Explorer + Trimmer editingHi Jamie
In relation to the second of your two questions you may like to look at this thread. I asked a similar question to yours and the responses were pretty interesting. Makes for good reading. But basically, we are stuck with what you have identified as the trimmer process (maybe – never say never of course.
https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/955521#955681Oh, and not sure if you know this, but after creating I and O points, just enter A and the trimmed clip is inserted onto your timeline. Another keyboard shortcut of which there are many!
Good luck.

June 22, 2013 at 11:59 am in reply to: Auto Ripple not affecting all events in my timelineEric – you will notice a small downward pointing arrow to the right of your ‘Auto ripple’ toggle button. It gives you three options; ‘all tracks’, ‘affected tracks only’ (ie the tracks on which the event you have highlighted is), or ‘affected tracks with markers etc.’
Combined with the Event Grouping toggle button John mentioned, this could be causing the issue that you are seeing.
Cheers. -
And how good is that! Thanks for reminding me John. I had forgotten these two shortcuts.

I’m pretty certain that your three stacked tracks are the only way to go. When you start animating one piece of text by adding further letters you are going to throw out the line formatting as you have discovered. It’s not such a big issue really. And don’t forget, you might be able to make some use of parent tracks too for movement.

Seems like you may just have your ‘Loop playback button’ enabled – bottom left of your timeline, looks like a 3/4 circle.
Hope this is your answer. One simple click. Cheers.

Had a look at what you are trying to achieve here Chris. You simply need to create a short piece of video footage, edited in SVP to provide the look you are after, and then use that as your backdrop. Use the ‘Menu Page Properties’ button labelled ‘Background Media’ (righthand column in the DVDA default view) to select this piece of footage and work from there.
I think this answers your question. Cheers.

Steve, (or should it be Steph?!)it goes back to a previous issue I was having some time ago and for the life of me I have no idea now what it was, sorry. Anyway after seeking assistance I was asked to run SVP in Administrator mode which I did. Along with compatabiltity mode I might add. After that, I was unable to run the program as a ‘User’.
Anyway, just recently my drag and drop option from outside of Vegas suddenly just became non-existent. Very frustrating!
After more research I discovered Roger Garpenholm’s solution (referred previously) which was to turn off Administrator Mode, – and it worked! Why, I have no idea. I am now running Vegas in ‘User’ mode and it seems fine.
And I should also add that, as with my previous posting, my saved editing layouts would disappear each time Vegas crashed. Also very frustrating! A bit of a search revealed that they were being saved, by default, in a ‘Temp’ folder although I did start amending the file location towards the end but again, without success.
Now however, I KNOW where my layouts are being saved and they are NOT disappearing now! Double bonus.
PS – I still use Admin mode for computer amendments – ie. it always wants a password before anything can be changed on it. Bit of a security check really.
Sorry a bit long but only way I can explain it. Just wish I could recall the original issue!!
