Still on a steep learning curve and now having a look at DVDA.

I want to make a fairly basic menu. I want a moving video with transparent edges for the main menu, with a static background image. So the video blends into the background.

I will then add the menu links separately.

I cant figure out hows best to do this. I have found a button template in the “wedding” templates, which provides a faded edge. But, I cant seem to make this be just media and not have an action, if that makes sense. So, I figure there is probably an easier/better way.

I guess, I am trying to create a simpler version of https://vimeo.com/11669344 – which I know is a paid for template from precomposed.com

Ay tips would really be appreciated, even if its just to get me going.

Had a look at what you are trying to achieve here Chris. You simply need to create a short piece of video footage, edited in SVP to provide the look you are after, and then use that as your backdrop. Use the ‘Menu Page Properties’ button labelled ‘Background Media’ (righthand column in the DVDA default view) to select this piece of footage and work from there.

I think this answers your question. Cheers.

Yea that needs to be done in Vegas Pro. I would create two tracks. On the bottom one create a Generated Media Solid Color that’s white. (make sure the white doesn’t exceed 235,235,235 to keep it broadcast safe) On the top track place your video. Then go into Pan/Crop on the video and use the Mask tool to draw a bezier mask around the edge of the video and feather the edges of the mask. Finally you might want to reduce the transparency on the top track to make it fade into the background more. You should get the exact effect as the video you linked to. Just use that as your background as Phil suggested.
