My NLE is Avid Xpress 4.6, and it has no option for ‘interpreting’ 16:9 footage. The only way to make it look normal is to shrink it down vertically. But these are green screen shots, so I only want to squish it down after I export my keyed shots, so that I retain full vertical quality until the final stage.
So I’ll be bringing in full 4:3 shots into AFX, solely for background keying, which will then be exported.
I’m considering resizing it in After Effects, but don’t know the percentage to shrink it by. And I’ll also be creating other motion grpahics in After Effects for this project. I’ll be adding a letterbox to these elements within After Effects, so once I know how much to shrink my source footage by, I’ll know the numbers required for placing my letterboxing Black Rectangles.
