You were successful using the Cinec encoder? I tried to install v1.8.7 on Windows XP and it will not launch….”encountered a problem and need to close”

  • Yep I have the BM Disk Speed Ap….but had the read/write backwards..215write/250read. But yeah that is limiting.

  • Yeah good points. System Specs:
    MP 5,1
    2×2.4GHz Quad-Core
    ATI Radeon HD 5770
    16 GB Ram
Media on External Gtech 4TB eSata 7200…215MB/s-read/250MB/s-write

I have a 12-core with SAS storage but it is not avail right now…just curious what others have experienced.

I guess I really need a faster setup to really see any difference…waiting for the Dec iMac 27″.

    Thanks.

  • Hmmm, ok thanks. I have at least a couple 20min projects that contain lots of compounds which need to be brought forward to 10.06. Seems I need to set aside some time to conform.

  • Thanks for the reply….

So I assume performance issues will remain until I break apart pre-existing compounds and create new ones?

[Dave LaRonde] “I’d like to know why you simply can’t animate at 29.97p and be done with it. You’ll save yourself a boatload of problems.”

The animation exists as true 24p and will not be changed. I do not want to introduce interlacing into a file-based 1080p/2997 (if that is what choosing fields and adding 3:2 will do) or am I misunderstanding.

Thanks Dave…I will look at the resources you supplied.

I want to note that I am not ever going to tape, staying in file based environment. Editing in both MC and FCP at 1080p/2997.

This is character animation source that will eventually be synced with sound. Do I still need to select the 23.976 instead of 24 for the Interpret footage and add 3:2? I have been selecting 24 and changing composition settings to 29.97 and rendering out ProRes.

    Thanks,
    Phil

July 7, 2011 at 7:30 pm in reply to: 24p animtion files into 1080p/29.97 project

Just had chance to report my test findings.

1-Michaels’s suggestion of importing into 1080p/24 project then open bin into 1080p/29.97 project and Avid creates blended frames.

2-Import straight into 1080p/29.97 project and Avid adds 3:2

Both situations keep duration the same once in the Avid but appear to be 3 frames short compared to the original file when viewed in MPEG Streamclip. (Avid-3:17:07 vs Streamclip-3:17:10)

I think I prefer the 3:2 look over the blended frames. Especially if we have to export frame grabs for any reason.

    Am I missing anything here?
