    Hi Michael,
I am on 5.5.1 and will try your workflow.
    Thanks,

June 28, 2011 at 12:18 am in reply to: Why DNx45 not showing as export option in QT

[Phil Coulloudon] “If I am using QTpro for example…I choose to export 1080p/23.976-DNxHD36 with frame rate specified as 29.97. MC will see this as DNxHD45? And I will get fast import into a project set at 1080p/29.97 with DNxHD45 as chosen setting?”

I just tested this scenario above and MC does see the media as DNxHD45 and I do get fast import in 1080p/29.97 project.

    Thanks,
    Phil

    I’m sorry but I don’t think I follow.

If I am using QTpro for example…I choose to export 1080p/23.976-DNxHD36 with frame rate specified as 29.97. MC will see this as DNxHD45? And I will get fast import into a project set at 1080p/29.97 with DNxHD45 as chosen setting?

Or DNxHD45 is left out of codec packages on purpose…maybe to be added at later date?

OK – thanks, that is unfortunate. We have been looking at DNxHD45 for the drive space savings plus the quality is totally acceptable for many situations.

I have earlier studied the White Paper you provided. We just recently upgraded to MC5.5.x so exploring new and faster ways of dealing with media prompted the closer look at 1080p/29.97 DNxHD45.

I guess we will do more testing with the AMA.

    Thanks,
    Phil

    Thanks Micael,

Yes the DNxHD36 shows up and so does the DNxHD75 from 720p/29.97. The only one missing is DNxHD45 1080p/29.97.

The MC project is 1080p/29.97 and working at DNxHD45 so I am hoping for fast import by AE encoding to DNxHD45. The QTs are fairly long with a quick turnaround required into MC.5.5.1

We are considering AMA but then there are issues with reliable native playback and transcode time.

Odd that it is not in the codec LE pkg for QT.

    Mac OS10.6 / 10.5 Streamclip or QTpro
    codec 2.3.4 / 2.2.1

    OK, stand down…problem solved…

Luckily I found the reason for the offline media. Not all media was copied to the portable drive. Somehow it was missed during he overnight copy process. All is well again…

Sorry for the waste of bandwidth..

March 17, 2011 at 8:35 pm in reply to: Which AVID codec pkg for 3rd party use

    Thanks for the reply Michael,

Is there an issue with the latest codecs (2.3.2-Mac 2.3.1-PC) running on other OS levels NOT listed…OS10.5, OS10.4, XP SP2 for example?

And I have read your fast import guide. Good info. We like DNxHD here but have had compatibility issues and alpha problems from AE and Episode so I am trying to investigate further.

    Thanks,
    Phil

March 11, 2011 at 6:23 pm in reply to: Nitris DX HDW – real world advantage please

Yes the AJA looks good for all 3 apps.

My question still remains…what real world advantage will I see with the Nitris DX when dealing with mostly file-based workflows and heavy composite rendering.
