I was recently asked to do this, so I too used Camtasia, with the Techsmith codec, and produced a good quality avi.
Then, to “improve” on the original, I also exported each finished slide as a graphic and assembled a “tasteful” version with each slide crossfading to the next.
You guessed it – the client wanted to use the version with all their horrible cheesy Power Point transitions.

November 5, 2006 at 1:21 am in reply to: Settings for Projects and Rendering to Avoid “Lines”Try changing the MPEG2 template – the Default Template is not recommended, despite its name – try a DVDA template.
You could also try Reduce Interlace flicker.

I’ve heard mention of a capture program called HDVSplit – either free or cheap – you could try that to see if you get the same results

Once the event is on the timeline, the way to shorten it is split and delete as Gary said, or drag the edges …
BUT
If you open the clip in the Trimmer, you can hit I for In, O for Out then A for add to Timeline at cursor position.

Assuming you’re capturing via firewire there shouldn’t be an issue – it’s just a data transfer. The bandwidth needed for HDV is about the same as DV, so there is no reason you should be getting dropouts, unless it’s system or hard drive related.
I use the Vegas HDV capture often and it has worked flawlessly for me.

October 30, 2006 at 12:48 am in reply to: difference between mastering and preparing a dvd?Mastering is when you are going to have a glass master made, from which copies are stamped out – not economical for under 500, I believe.
Preparing is when you are going to burn your own, as most of us do.

Really? I am surprised Ed – there are not many products where it’s that way round!

Just for the record – Canon Printers do this too – I have an i865 and a Pixma iP4200.
The i865 has an insert disc caddy, and the iP4200 has the disc holder built in.
The Canon Software is excellent – especially now that I’ve found how to print right to the edge of the new “smaller centre” DVDs.

If you open the audio in the Trimmer, the video should be there too – assuming you’re talking about the audio part of a video clip.

Don’t worry Alan – I’ve had as couple of those procedures, and the sedative, whilst quite enjoyable, makes decimal points completely invisible!
