If you drop 4:3 clips onto a 16:9 timeline you will have a black section right and left, because of the different aspect ratios.
If you Open Pan/Crop then Right click / Match output aspect, the pic will fill the screen by effectively cutting off the top and bottom. This means your actual picture will start at 720 x 442.5, which is where your loss of quality occurs.

It’s also used as an exaggeration by manufacturers to make their hard drives/discs sound bigger than they are!! e.g. “120 Gb Drive” is really 112.

One other thing.
Unless you are trying to squeeze “lots” of video onto a disc, you can often use PCM .wav audio instead of AC3. This avoids the loss of volume without making the adjustments above.
I generally put out programs around 30 mins so I use PCM most of the time.

There’s a Split Screen icon above the Preview window you must have this ON at present – click it again and it will turn off.

aha – I believe .tifs need a version of Quicktime to be installed in order for Vegas to process them.
Another solution would be to convert the tifs to something like .png in your Paint program.

Are any of these photos on an external drive? It could be that a temporary loss of connection, firewire or USB2, is causing them to be unavailable.

Just re-read – Ctrl C is for the FIRST event, then copy to the rest ….

You’d be better off using Pan Crop, which will work with the original resolution of the pics.
If you set project properties to widescreen, you can then open pan crop, right click on the image and select “Match Output aspect”. This will give you the widescreen aspect, and you may need to move the frame up or down to select the best view. (There is a tool at the left which will restrict movment to up/down only.)
Now, Ctrl C that second event to copy to clipboard. Assuming all the other clips are there on the same track, select the next event, right click and select “Select Events to end”. Now, right click again on the second event and choose “Paste event attributes”.
This will apply the same widescreen crop to all the other pics, and all you need to do is go through and adjust the cropped frame to where you want it.
