Double click the video on it’s Menu so you can see it on the timeline below.
Look at the end – is there an inadvertant “End” marker just before the end of the clip?
If there is, drag it the the far right. -
– and remember, if it’s the look of the menu background that you are finding boring, you have always been able to replace the background with any picture of your choice.
I almost never use a “stock” DVDA background – I often create a still from the video program in Vegas and use this as a background.

You could also use height mapping to make the still look like it is riding the ripples in the water.

Not sure what you goinf to do once you’ve selected, but creating a loop region by just dragging the cursor, or by double clicking an event, selects a vertical “slice”.

Rendering speed can be increased with a faster CPU, or network rendering using one or more additional comuters, but since you’re doing this each day, would it not be convenient to render overnight?

Firstly, check that it’s not just on preview playback that this is happening – drag to select a short region and hit Shift B for a Ram render.
MPEG2 playback is often problematical because of the I frames situation.
If it is a consistent amount out of synch, synch the whole lot before cutting.

You didn’t mention the spec of your computer or your microphone, but it should be possible to record directly to the Vegas timeline without problems. One thing to watch out for is positioning the mic as far from the PC as possible to avoid HD noise.
The fact that you have succeeded with one recording means you must be doing most things right. I would do it in smaller stages – maybe 2-3 minutes at a time. Make sure the drive you’re recording your audio onto (File / Properties / Audio / Recorded Files Folder) has plenty of space and is reasonably well defragmented.
Don’t get too hung up on being in perfect synch – record it roughly where you want the commentary, then “S” to split and you can move your audio to exactly the right position afterwards.

When you say the last “frame” – presumably it’s longer than that.
As Gary said, does it work ok in Preview within DVDA?
