That’s rather odd alright – I would have expected the filters to exist for you just as they do for me. Hmmm … why don’t you send me your set up info (platform/os version etc) which might help me understand why they don’t show up for you as they do for me.

Did you uninstall before you reinstalled the update?

Perhaps I misunderstood … I thought you only had BCC FxPlug but if you have BCC AE (which apparently you seem to) and are able to use them in AE then you can use the installer that you have for AE to install into RED. Just select custom from the installer and pick the Library/Application Support/BorisPlugins folder and you should be good to go. The filters will show up in RED both as standalone and plugged into FCP.

I think the problem is that you need to download the latest version of BCC 6. We made an update that includes a couple of new filters – BCC Swish Pan and BCC Extruded EPS. It’s the Extruded EPS filter that you need to extrude the Illustrator EPS file with compound paths.

The answer is yes.

To do this, create the compound path object in Adobe Illustrator, then save it as an Illustrator eps file. This can be opened within the BCC Extruded EPS filter in AE, preserving the hole in the center of the object.

Congratulations on your new purchase of the BCC 5 FxPlug filters for FCP. And you’re using RED too … that’s great. You have a very powerful set of tools at your disposal.

So … to answer your question regarding using the FxPlug filters in RED. The answer is that this is not possible because RED uses the After Effects API to read filters and the FxPlug filters use Apples FxPlug API to read filters. These API’s are totally different and not cross compatible. RED would need BCC 6 AE and not BCC FxPlug or BCC AVX. If you had BCC AE 6 then you could install these into Boris RED and use them in the FCP timeline or standalone in the RED Engine.

I’d also like to mention that if you purchased the filters after we made the announcement of the BCC 5 FxPlug filters then you may be eligible for a free upgrade to BCC 6 FxPlug when it becomes available in the next few weeks. You should place a call or send an email into the BorisFX sales department to see if you are indeed eligible for the free upgrade. The upgrade is huge – many new filters and all of them are faster.

Hi,

The issue that you are seeing is related to the read order of RGBA date in MacIntel equipped systems. There is code that is internal to the filter that was expecting the byte order to read RGBA but we are being told that it is ARGB by the system, hence the color swap that you are seeing . This issue has been fixed with BCC 6.

I suggest that you upgrade BCC 5 to BCC 6 to take advantage of the fix for this issue, and if you upgrade you’ll also gain an additional 15 amazing new filters as well as many other new features such as animated presets, faster filter renders due to enhanced multi-processor code and more. Hi Brian,

This is certainly interesting. Just so that I have it straight … are you pressing the apply button in RED to actually apply the effect to the timeline? If you quit RED instead of pressing the apply button then the result that you describe would be expected.

The correct workflow is:

• apply RED to the clip / transition in FCP
• click the banner to enter RED and edit the effect
• click the Apply button at the lower right of the timeline window, which brings you back to the FCP timeline
• render the FCP timeline

Hi Brian,

Well there are three places in the timeline where you can place the Chroma key, each one delivering a different result.

(1) on top of the track to be keyed
(2) directly on the track but downstream of the track transform function
(3) directly on the track but upstream of the track transform function

Try placing the key in these different positions in the timeline track and let us know what result you are seeing. I hope this helps.
