Hi Wilfried,
Thanks for reporting this – we’ll try to reproduce it in our labs and if we can reproduce it here then there’s a good chance that we can fix it.
Thanks,
Peter.

Hi Paul,
Our current focus is with Boris RED 5 and making sure that we cover all of the target hosts as best as we can on all platforms, 32 and 64. We’re also very busy with the BCC updates, again for many different target hosts on multiple platforms. With that, there are no immediate plans for updating Boris Blue … that may or may not change as we make progress and move forward with our current projects but as of today that’s where we stand with that.
RED is more of a compositor, Blue is more of a graphics engine … but there has always been a lot of crossover between Boris RED and Boris Blue, with the major difference being that Blue utilizes hardware GPU rendering for previews and the final result, falling back to CPU rendering only when necessary and RED offering OpenGL GPU previews for speedy 3D set up but always doing the final render using the CPU. This is what provides Blue with real-time previews and near real-time renders. It’s blazingly fast for 3D graphics work, as you are well aware, but it’s a Windows only product so it’s not for everybody. We would like to add more features from Blue into RED and this may indeed happen (perhaps with RED 6) but at this point in time we’re more focused on finishing the updates to RED 5 for all host targets / platforms.
I hope this helps.
Peter.

Right … that’s the pop-up that I was referring to. So does altering the selection in this pop-up make a difference in the result?
Also, and I should have asked this in the very beginning, do you have the most recent version of BCC 7 installed on that system? If not there may be a free update available to you which may solve the problem. You might want to go to the website (borisfx.com/downloads) and download / install the latest version of the product.
Cheers,
Peter.

Another idea might be toggling the color depth switch … there’s a pop-up to select whether or not the filter will render it’s result in deep color. You might want to try changing that to see if it helps.
Cheers,
Peter.

I suspect that the matte is not clean and has areas where the key needs to be refined.
There’s a pop-up selector in the filter control panel that you can use to set the filter output to display the matte that is is generating. You should set this to View Matte and then tweak the controls in the filter until you have a clean matte.
You can also add the BCC Matte Choker filter after the chroma key filter to further refine the result. I’d also suggest adding the BCC Light Warp filter to complete the key.
You might want to take a look at these free tutorials:

I hope this helps.

Hmmm … what happens if you type the symbol in another application, such as text edit or notepad, and then copy and paste it into the BCC text window? Does this work?
Cheers,
Peter.

Hi Steve,
In order to do this, you’ll need to keyframe the target parameter so that it “finds” the region that you were tracking as it returns into the frame.
Or you can split the clip where the object that you are tracking leaves the frame, and again when it returns into the frame, applying separate instances of the filter to each section of the clip.
Cheers,
Peter.

Hi Robert,
We’ll investigate to see if we can reproduce the problem in our labs and if so we’ll talk with Sony to determine whether it’s a problem on our end and something that we can fix or if it’s something that must be fixed in the host.
Thanks!
Peter.

HI,
Wire Remover should be able to handle that but sometimes the Match Move filter can be easier . Better than either of these options is Boris RED.
If I had to do the task that you describe, I would apply RED to the clip, then create a spline mask shape over the wall outlet. Then I’d motion track the mask so that it’s locked to the socket (assuming a camera move here) and to eliminate the socket I’d place the original clip right behind it and offset the XY position so that the masked region, which created a knock-out hole where the socket was, is now filled with a similar background. You can blend the edges of the spline mask shape by applying a blur filter to the mask.
Or you could use the clone paint feature in RED to do this and motion track the paint strokes if the camera is moving.
I hope this helps.

Font sizes are typically set in integers and not decimals so although entering a decimal value is not permissible, you can use the scale parameters to achieve the same result.
I hope this helps.
