Well I’d definitely try a re-install of the BCC software. To remove the preferences you’ll have to use the registry editor. From the start menu choose Run. Then type in the word regedit into the window that appears. Twirl down the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE group. Then scroll down until you see Boris Continuum Complete AVX 5.0 and delete the folder using the right mouse selector. After you do this you should reinstall the software to see if that solves the problem. Please make sure you have all of the licensing information available to you before you begin any of this.

I’m not sure what’s going on with your system but to start with, you’re using an old version of BCC that might benefit from a refresh. I would suggest deleting the preferences, and then either reinstalling BCC to see if that solves the problem and if not then you might want to download the newer version of BCC (version 5) to see if that fixes it.

I think the best course of action is to present this to our support department so that we can bring this into the labs in an effort to reproduce your results. Okay so I followed the steps as you described them and can’t reproduce the error that you are seeing. I used the Lens Flare Advanced, with the 16:9 option disabled and whether I apply it in Motion or in FCP the result is identical – the lens flare is perfectly round and without distortion. Are you using the FxPlug version of the filter?

Indeed, the Library Browser feature is not included with the Title 3D text generator that ships with FCP. It’s exclusive to the Boris RED, Graffiti and FX products. And unfortunately there is no way for any product other than Title 3D to open a text generator object that was generated within that program.

So, another thing for you to consider is that if you are ONLY interested in titling and do not want to do any compositing, filtering, shape masking or other special effects then you may also want to take a look at Boris Graffiti, which has the same user interface and Library Browser as Boris RED but is a low cost solution as it does not include anything other than titling and the most basic of special effects. You can get information on the product and a free 14 day trial version at the http://www.borisfx.com website.

If you buy one of our products I want you to be happy with it and remain a customer of ours for the long term. I can only encourage you to take a look at the site, download the products and give them a test run. Take a few minutes and read the product feature descriptions that we have posted on the site on each of the product pages. Then decide which one you think fits your needs. If it’s titling AND compositing or special effects then you need RED – but if it’s strictly lower thirds and titles and no compositing then your needs might be satisfied with Graffiti.

Well the answer is yes, you can do all that you have described.

For instance, let’s say we have created the phrase “swish pan” as a title in RED and we save it off to the browser. Now perhaps we like the text style that was used but want to change the text to display the phase “lower third” for another video clip – we just open the library browser, load the saved “swish pan” setting, double click on the text track and change the text to read “lower third” by simply retyping the phrase. Re-render and we’re done.

The titling capabilities in RED are quite comprehensive – I think it’s definitely worth downloading the free trial and giving it a workout to see if it fits your workflow.

Hi Sam,

Well it’s basically when they (Apple) moved from using the AE API to the FxPlug API inside of Final Cut Studio 2. As it’s a new API they are still in the process of refining it so there may be a few things such as the real time effects problem that may crop up but I’m sure they will attend to this sooner rather than later.

We post all known issue with all of our software releases as release notes with the software installer. I believe this issue was noted. We don’t offer these lists on our web site but that’s a suggestion that I’ll bring to the group. Thanks for mentioning that.
