Hi Bill,

Actually there’s no need to send me the clip as I reproduced the issue that you are seeing here using the Lens Flare. What I was able to see is that the effect appears fine at the start of the clip, then as you loop or play the effect, you can see the lens flare flash to white for a couple of frames and then return to normal. Interestingly, this flashing appears to disappear if you select one of the presets, such as the 105mmPrime etc. Our engineering team is looking into the problem and we will issue a free update that fixes this asap. Meanwhile the Lens Flare Advanced, which is a superset of the Lens Flare, can be used instead. This filter can identically mimic the Lens Flare effect and does not exhibit the flashing problem. Or you can jsut pick one of the presets from the Lens Flare preset pop-up menu.

Could you please try the Lens Flare Advanced on your system to see if you get the same clean result that I did on mine? Or use the Lens Flare but pick the 105mmPrime setting and see if that eliminates the flash?

Hi Pedro,

It’s been a while since I had a look at the DVD’s that we have available so I’m completely sure what they offer in terms of previews or ideas for transition effects. The only information that we have up on our web site in this regard is this age:

I think you should be able to find plenty of interesting wipe effects using a combination of both BCC and the built-in wipes that ship with the vid product. We’re always updating our filter set with new effects and also have the FEC product, which includes many interesting and unique wipes for Avid systems. Here’s a link where you can check that out:

All of our products have a free 15 day trial version so if you want to try the FEC wipes just download the product and install it onto a system. After the 15 day trial period, the filters will generate an X over the viewer until the filters are unlocked with a license key.

Hi Vince,

I’m not sure what to tell you other than the obvious things like disabling the Continuously Rasterize function might help. And disabling the Deflicker should help also. You should know that disabling either or both of these will have a negative impact on the quality of the rendered text.

I’m certain you’ll discover things that you never knew existed in the product that will be an enormous help in your effects creation work.

Then there are a couple of training DVD’s, which you can see by going here: borisfx.com/training/dvd.php – we sell them of course and I think they are under $100 each. There is one specifically designed for using BCC in Avid.

HI Bill,

So … I tried and can’t reproduce the issue on my sysetm so I’m assuming that there might be something with the clip or the project that is causing this issue. Is there any chance you could please send me 1 second (or less) of the unfiltered clip in a bin that I can open here? All I need is a couple of frames really. Here’s my email address: peterm@borisfx.com. One thing though … there’s a limit on our server to the size of any single attachment so if the bin / clip that you are sending is larger than 5 MB then perhaps you could send this to me via ftp. The free FTP service yousendit.com works like a charm. I suggest zipping anything before sending it to preserve the integrity of the file.

In order for our engineers to fix the effect, I have to demonstrate for them that it is broken, hence the reason for the clip request.

Hi Mark,

Okay … this is progress in the right direction. Now, click on the yellow V1 text at the right of the track underneath the page turn track and you should see a list which includes V2. Select V2 and this should switch the video to the second video layer in the Avid timeline.

Please let me know if this works.

Hi Mark,

Here’s what you should be doing:

Assuming that you have two tracks overlaid on the Avid timeline …

• apply Boris RED 2 input effect to the layer on top (V2) in the Avid timeline
• enter the RED UI
• you should have two tracks by default in RED with V1 on top and V2 below that
• change the track type from 3D Plane to Page Turn – this should reveal the second video track behind the page turn.
• animate the page turn offset parameter so that it reveals the other video track over time
• click the Apply button to go back to the Avid timeline

Please give that a shot and let me know if this works.
