Hi,
That should work … if you are using XP and for some reason it doesn’t launch RED automatically when you double-click on a project fine, you should be able to instruct the OS to always launch RED when this type of file is double-clicked. Double-click the project file, assuming it doesn’t find RED the OS should ask you what program to use to open the file. Select Browse and navigate to Program Files and then the BorisFX, Inc folder and click on RED – make sure to check the box that states something along the lines of “Always use this program to open this type of file” and you should be all set.

Hi Dan,
I was able to successfully install and use the Psunami filter within Boris RED on the Mac. I haven’t tried Windows. One issue that I observed while working with the filter is that the presets loader will cause RED to crash, so as long as you don’t touch that control you should be able to use the filter in this environment. Also note that I tested the filter in the RED standalone mode and not while plugged into a host.
When installing on the Mac, the destination for the filter should be:
Library/ApplicationSupport/BorisFX/BorisPlugins

Hi Dan,
Are you using a Mac or a Win based machine? It is unclear to me whether or not the Psunami filter will actually work within Boris RED but it’s certainly worth a shot to see if it does. I think we will only know for sure by installing and testing.

I have more information from our release engineer that might help you.
When you run the installer again, there is a popup that can be switched from “Custom Install” to “Uninstall”. By running this it will uninstall the filters.

Hi Joseph,
I’m surprised that you feel the need to supplement the keying filters that are available in RED with 3rd party additions. You mention that the edges were not quite perfect … have you tried adding the Matte Cleanup or the Matte Choker filters along with the Chroma key filter to perfect the edges? This is usually a necessary procedure given the fact that key lighting is usually not perfect.
I would suggest to you that you give this a shot and it that doesn’t provide satisfactory results then please let me know and we’ll work together to either figure out the right combination of native filters in RED or a 3rd party plug-in keyer that will deliver the results that you need in RED.

Hi Michael,
From your description I’m guessing that you must be using a Mac and if this is indeed the case I believe the problem is that you have an older version of BCC 4 installed. Try downloading the updater from our web site to see if this corrects the problem.
You should also be aware that almost all of the filters from BCC 4 are included in RED 4.2 as native filter effects.

From your description I think that somehow the preferences for BCC have become mangled … it might be best to simply remove them and relaunch. Can you please provide me with your system details and I’ll tell you where to look for the preferences file. I need to know the OS, host and plug-ins that are installed on the system.

Hi,
So I believe we understand the problem – it appears as though you are attempting to install RED 4.2 onto a Win2K system, which is not a supported configuration. If you would like to upgrade RED to the latest 4.2 version then the OS will have to be upgraded also as there are libraries that RED requires that are not present in Win2K. We recommend using Win XP or Vista.
Sorry about the bad news but at least we understand the source of the problem.
