Hi,

Well as you have correctly assumed FX does not offer extruded shapes and that you can open a RED preset file that includes an extrusion is an anomaly.

I’ll take a look on the web site to where we may have mentioned anything to the contrary regarding support for extrusions in the FX product and ask that this be corrected. Thanks for pointing that out.

Hi Mark,

It might be that you are have OpenGL enabled and other resources on the system are vying for control of the board. What happens if you disable OpenGL preview in RED … do you see the same result as you reported? What are the specs of the system on which you are running RED and experiencing these symptoms?

Hi,

You can use any bitmap or vector image as a brush for the paint system in RED. Simply create the look that you want, and then save this off using an image format that RED will read, such as psd, tiff, ai, eps etc etc or even a quicktime movie clip. Or you can nest any track in RED and use that as a brush. And when you have a look that you like, you can save this off to the Style palette for later retrieval and use on other projects.

It should work as expected. You’ll need to have the latest version of FX, which should be a free upgrade for you. To get to the banner, double click the clip to which you have applied the effect and go to the filters tab – the FX banner should appear there just as it did before. If not you might want to give someone here in customer support an email (support@borisfx.com).

It’s in the Comp window – the icon looks like a target and is the 8th button from the left beside the rgb striped icon. Click on it and you’ll see the option for title safe.

Hi Steve,

Unless you are experiencing problems with the current set up or want to use the improved subtitling feature in RED 4.2.1 then there is no real pressing need for you to consider upgrading from RED 4 to RED 4.2.1 update. The update does not include any significant new functionality over and beyond the features that are included in RED 4, unless you are using RED for subtitling. If this is the case then by all means update your software but as I mentioned already, if the set up that you have is working for you and is stable then I suggest leaving it as is for the time being. The changes that have been made to RED from version 4 to version 4.2.1 are mostly for OS and host support issues with only a few feature changes.

Hi Sam,

There’s nothing wrong with the Boris FX web site – we intentionally pulled the link for this free filter because the offer has expired. You can still download the trial version of the BCC filter set, which includes the Snow filter, and use this free for two weeks, after which point it will render with a watermark.
