I think you’re almost there – and I think I understand what is happening.

Here are the steps:

• apply Boris RED to the transition between two clips butted together in the PP timeline
• enter the Boris RED interface
• delete the tracks in the RED timeline
• add a single new track and set that to V1
• add the swish pan transition filter on top of this track
• click on the swish pan filter to bring parameters into the control panel
• select Auto from the Animation pop-up
• twirl open the Swish Pan filter in the RED timeline to reveal the sub-tracks
• select V2 for the Layer to Reveal by clicking on the (default) V1 on the sub-track and selecting V2 from the pop-up list
• scrub the timeline and you should have the transition effect
• click apply to return to the PP timeline

Can you please try that and let me know if this works for you?

Hi Daniel,

You can do this quite easily with Boris Blue. You’ll have to be on Windows OS as the Boris Blue product is currently available only on the Windows platform but it’s really easy to achieve the effect that you have in mind with this product. You can download the trial version of Boris Blue from this link:

You might be able to do some of this in RED, however Boris RED was not designed with this type of effect in mind, which is one of the reasons why we created Boris Blue. 🙂

Hi,

I just tried that on my system here and it worked as expected. I used Premiere Pro 5.5.2 on Windows with Boris RED Transition 5.2. Applied this to the transition area, entered the RED UI, set up the transition that I wanted by selecting one of the presets from the Library Browser and entered back into the Premiere Pro UI. Then I rendered the effect and the transition appeared as expected.

Are you sure that you’re using the RED Transition from the Video Transitions menu in Premiere?

This is actually something that we had discussed internally a long time ago and we thought we might create an area on our web site where users could share settings. Given that you have now posted what is basically a request for this, I’ll ask our web admin create an area on the Boris FX web site where registered users can upload and download settings files.

Once it’s in place, I’ll post to the list. We’ll also mention it in our newsletter.

Hi Daniel,

If I correctly understand the effect that you have in mind, you should duplicate the track and invert the mask on the duplicated track only, then apply any transforms that you want to make only one of the tracks.

If I have misunderstood your request, please send me an image and description or better yet, an example of what you are trying to do and I’ll let you know how it can be done in RED 5.

Hi Doug,

The problem is with Boris RED 5 64 and Quicktime. The best workaround that I can offer at this point in time is that you download and install the RED 5 32 bit application, which can load the .pct image file. You can then export the file as a tiff, which RED 5 64 can read natively.

Hi Colleen,

The project size in RED 5 should mirror the sequence settings. One of the new features in RED 5 is the ability to override the sequence settings while in RED 5, manually specifying any size for the RED composition. To do this, you need to go to the RED preference window, then checkbox labelled “Manually specify pixel dimensions, PAR and FPS” – when you enable this option you’ll be able to select from the presets in the Project pop-up or manually enter any custom value in the various fields below that.

Now, regarding the retinal display issue … we have reproduced the problem here and we’ll offer a free update to solve this problem as soon as possible. I can’t offer any dates at this stage for the fix but know that it’s in the works.

I believe that might be the source of the problem. We’ve seen some issues with the retina display in our labs … I’ll check again with the QA techs who tested that to see if they can (a) confirm that this is true and (b) offer any kind of solution.
