Glad to hear that you were able to import the files, even if the performance is sluggish. I’ll ask the engineers if they have an answer for you regarding the best codec for RED under these conditions.

Hi Mark,
Is the suffix extension on the clip labeled correctly? If you are on Windows this is important as RED can’t recognize the file without the correct file extension. What codec was used in the generation of the files that you are trying to import?

You should be able to import an unlimited number of layers of any size into RED. Are you working within a host environment (and if so, which host?) or are you using RED standalone? The answer to this question will enable me to provide you with the answer that you are looking for.

Hi,
RED and Avid FX can accept native Photoshop files with layers and alpha so the best option is to save the file out from photoshop as PSD and import that into RED / Avid FX. The Targa file format does not support alpha.
You can even access the individual layers from the photoshop file and manipulate them in 3D space in RED and Avid FX. To do this, import the layered PSD file and select Track>Convert to Container.

I think the only way for it to work is for you to make sure that you have BCC AVX 3.0 installed on that system. Hi Todd,
If you are using an older version of MC then you must manually promote the effects to AVX2 for them to render the same result in BCC 5. Or you can just leave BCC 4 on the system – the two versions can co-exist in the effects palette. If you have uninstalled BCC4 then you might want to reinstall that using the BCC 5 installer.
On newer versions of MC the promotion from AVX 1.5 to 2.0 is automatic.

Hi,
I think I may have some answers to the issues that you are seeing. To start with, you should upgrade (for free) from 4.1 to 4.2.
• You mention that you apply RED as a transition but when you click the banner nothing happens. Is the CTI parked over the transition when you click on the banner? Because RED relies on temporal information being passed from the FCP timeline, you must be on the transition in order for RED to know which transition comp to open.
• You can change the proxy behavior by launching RED from the FCP timeline, then selecting from the drop down menu bar: Preview>Image>Update Source, then apply back to the FCP timeline. You might want to do this in the standalone application also to keep them in sync.
• You can remove the freebie Glitter filter manually by selecting it in the BorisRED filters folder on your system and either moving it to a different folder or simply deleting it.

Well I think it’s probably more accurate to say that the version of Graffiti that is included with Pinnacle Studio is a custom version of Graffiti that we designed along with Pinnacle product management and engineers to meet their custom specs. There are indeed more features available in Graffiti 5.3 for the Vegas host than there are in the bundle version of Graffiti 5.2 for Pinnacle Studio but both products are fairly full featured titling applications.
