To enable fast previews, you should do the following:

• make sure that you are in draft mode – you can control this with the third button from the left at the bottom of the main composite window

• make sure that OpenGL is enabled – do this by going here: Preview>OpenGL Mode>On,max. texture caching

• make sure that you are performing a “preview to RAM” and not just pressing the spacebar to play through the effect – do this by selecting the timeline window and pressing control + zero

Now when you preview extruded objects the previews will be computed on the graphics card instead of the CPU. Note that this preview only, the final render will still be “scanline” and will take place on the CPU, and not in OpenGL.

Also, if you really want to get better performance with RED, then you should try using it in standalone mode of operation and not as a plug-in. The reason for this is that when the host is running, it consumes resources and can get in the way of RED and while the host won’t prevent RED from completing any operation, RED will run faster outside of the host environment.

My assumption is that you are changing the clip to which the Boris filter was applied and that the Boris filter is not happy with the change. I suggest that you go into the key, save it out as a settings file, delete the effect, change the media as you need to, then reapply the effect and load the settings. Can you try that and let me know if this helps?

Hi,

The image well is in the control panel beside the parameter labeled Source Layer and looks like a sunken square (or depressed box) and will have a film frame with a question mark in it until you drop a media clip onto it. Drag media from the bin onto this icon to provide the filter with the media that it needs to function.

The reference frame is the I frame of the clip, ie, the locked down frame around which you wish to stabilize the effect. Enter the frame number in the Reference Frame parameter and the clip will lock this frame and stabilize other frames around it.

Hi,

Did you use the latest version of the BCC 5 installer? We recently uploaded a newer version that includes an install target specifically for CS4. I would like to suggest that you download the latest version and re-install the product. BCC 5 is compatible with CS4 so you should not be getting those errors.

Regarding the uninstallation of the product … you are on a Mac so this must be done manually, ie, by performing a search for BCC 5 and then deleting the plugs that are listed in the search result.

So this filter appears to have some issues when working with clips that include alpha information – I’ll pass this on to engineering and ask them to take a look at it when they have a chance.

Meanwhile, if you have AvidFX I suggest that you complete the effect using that instead of BCC AVX.

What is the difference between the background in general controls and the one at the bottom of the plugin?

Not much from what I can tell.

Also, how do I get one of the planes to key without showing another layer as a background within it?

If you apply the BCC Chroma Key filter to a layer in the timeline and then apply the BCC Z Space I filter to a layer above the keyed layer then it should work as expected, ie, the key should show the underlying layer.

To solve this problem you need to go into the filter general controls group and set the background to something other than the default, which is 1st below. Setting it to None will generate the black background that you are looking for.
