BCC 5 and RED 4 integrate quite well with Adobe AE and Premiere Pro CS4 so you should have no compatibility issues if you upgrade to the latest versions of each of these products.

Seeing as you already own previous versions you are eligible for upgrade pricing. Louis mentioned in his response that he was able to solve a similar issue on his system by simply repairing the permissions on the affected system – have you tried that and if so, did this solution work for you?

Hi Darren,

The problem is with RED 3 static generators coming into RED 4. The only way for you to resolve the issue is to maintain both RED 3 and RED 4 on the same system. Here are a couple of suggestions from our engineering team:

There are two workarounds for the problem:

(a) rename the RED 4 plugs to RED 3 and the timeline should come forward without errors

(b) install RED 3 along with RED 4 and maintain both sets

I strongly suggest that you go with option (b) – if you need a RED 3 installer to do this please contact me off list (peterm@borisfx.com) and we’ll see about making that available to you. All new effects should be created using RED 4 and you should only really use RED 3 for maintaining the old timelines.

If you download the latest version of Continuum Complete from the BorisFX web site you should not have any trouble with BCC 5 and Premiere Pro CS4 on a Vista 64 system.

Hi Craig,

Actually the BCC Snow filter was a limited time freebie – and I’m pretty sure that was clearly stated on the web site at that time when the offer was valid. Had you not uninstalled it, the filter would have continued to operate as expected indefinitely, as long as you used it from the original installation. Unfortunately the filter installer timed out quite some time ago and the offer is no longer valid.

You can download the trial version of BCC FxPlug, and use that for the next two weeks, totally free of charge and without watermark to complete a project. Other than that the only option available is to purchase the full version of the product.

Double-click on the pie chart track in the Boris RED timeline. This opens the chart editor. Add a column and add data for each row. Click on the save changes button (you may have to expand the default window size to see the save data button) and presto … a 5 column chart. You can add as many pieces as you need or even import chart data from excel.

Hi John,

You can work in full manual mode of operation and perform ABC moves if you prefer. It’s all just a matter of keyframing.

Regarding the max file size … I think it’s something like 40k in any one direction but I’ll have to check to be sure about that. I’ll send an email to someone in engineering as I’m out of the office all week.

Hi John,

Here are the steps that I would recommend for generating the Pan and Zoom effect that you are looking for:

• create a project and sequence to the desired output size
• generate a slug – set the length to the length that you want to have for the pan and zoom effect
• apply the BCC Pan and Zoom filter to the slug
• in the Pan and Zoom filter controls, import the media that you want to use from the system drive directly into the filter
• set the workflow to transform A
• set the preview to floating viewport
• use the filter controls to set the start size, rotation and position
• set the workflow to transform B
• again, use the filter controls to set the start size, rotation and position
• set the preview target to mix
• set the workflow to auto-animation
• you can then tweak the various animation controls to adjust the speed and smoothness of the animation
• then set the preview mode to none to see the final result

Hi K,

It’s possible that sometimes the UI for the numeric entry boxes does not display the highlighted state but it should function and as you mentioned you can always make the change via the slider bar. I wonder if there is an issue with the preference file that could be causing your problems – sometimes deleting this file and allowing the system to start fresh can make some of these quirks disappear. Have you tried deleting the applications preference file? If not this might be worth a shot.
