Hi,

What happens if you promote the BCC 3 Fire effect from AVX 1.5 to AVX 2.0, then save the timeline, then open the timeline on the system with BCC 4? Or, what happens if you just promote to AVX 2 on the BCC 4 system … does that help?

And what happens if you render the file using the RED standalone render engine? Is it free of the jitter that you are seeing when using RED as a plug-in to the MC?

I just noticed that you mention using RED 3 … have you tried this with RED 4? It may be a problem with RED 3 and Avid MC 3 – sometimes Avid makes changes to the AVX code and when that happens sometimes we can wind up with field reversal problems. I’d like to suggest downloading the latest trial version of RED 4 to see if that helps remedy the situation.

It’s unclear to me whether you are pulling the media into RED from the desktop or from an Avid bin but either way, here’s something to try. Go to the RED 3 preferences window (edit>preferences) and click on the import media tab. Set the Interpret Field Order to “None” and see if that solves the problem for you.

There are also tutorials available from within RED … just click on the help menu option and select Boris RED help. This action launches a web browser and opens the electronic help system that ships with the RED application. In this help system you can find tutorials and other helpful information regarding use of RED as standalone or plugged-into a host.

The DVD is also very useful and certainly worth your time.

Is this 3-D Fragmentation item a setting that you are using from the Library Browser in RED?

Yes, for the most part, everything in BCC and RED should operate in a similar manner whether used in MC or FCP. There are some differences but for the most part they should be the same. The differences are only as a result of the differences in the host API, which sets the rules for what can be done in that particular host environment.

Hi Dustin,

The trial versions are actually full versions of the product which render without any watermark for 2 weeks. After the 2 week trial period has expired, future renders include a watermark in the rendered composite, however the software remains fully functional.

The update is indeed cross-platform. Feel free to download and install.

The main feature set of RED 4 has not changed – the 4.3.2 point release is a maintenance release intended to better support the CS4 versions of AE and Premiere Pro and does not include any new filters from BCC 6. RED 4 includes the BCC5 filter set – BCC 6 is a brand new product and was released only a few weeks ago.

It might be that the title matte feature is not included in the TR version of this filter. Can you try the non-TR version of the Page Turn filter to see if that works for you?
